This statement was made after Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Surawong Thienthong, made a shocking proposal to ban Cambodia from participating in the 33rd SEA Games for the safety of its athletes and because of the current conflict on the border between the two countries.

"The Thai organizing committee, or even the SEA Games Council, has no right to ban any member country from competing if that country is still a member, and there is no official punishment," said Mr. Chaiyaphak Siriwat.

According to Mr. Chaiyaphak Siriwat, any statements and decisions related to the 33rd SEA Games must comply with the Olympic Charter, which adheres to the principles of political neutrality, non-discrimination and protection of the participation rights of all countries. He also affirmed that the voices of the 11 member countries of the SEA Games Council must be heard, no country has the right to impose its own ban on another country participating in the Southeast Asian Games.
