Don't leave people alone after natural disasters: Agribank Insurance intervenes early to compensate nearly 300 billion VND

The recent heavy rains and floods in the Central Highlands region have caused severe damage to construction systems, factories, hydropower plants, means of transport and property of people and businesses. As soon as the floodwaters receded, Agribank Insurance immediately activated the emergency assessment mechanism and mobilized additional working groups to heavily affected areas such as Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong.

In conditions where roads were cut off, many routes still had landslides and thick mud, the team of assessors did not hesitate to cross floods, mud, and walk many kilometers to reach each scene of damage.

According to quick statistics, in 2025, the entire Agribank Insurance system received 525 loss cases, with a total estimated compensation of up to 287,312 billion VND. Of which, the Agribank internal asset group included 160 cases, with an estimated loss of 35,580 billion VND; the Agribank customer group had 153 cases with a damage value of about 128,107 billion VND; the remaining 212 cases belonged to other customers with a total estimated loss of 123,625 billion VND. This is one of the natural disasters with the largest level of property damage in 2025.

The extent of damage this time is very complicated in many industries, requiring appraisers to make careful assessments in very difficult actual conditions.

Amidst the hillsides still dotted with landslides, amidst the mud still thick underfoot, the Agribank Insurance assessors work quietly. They are present at every factory, every warehouse that is deeply flooded, every hydroelectric project with paralyzed equipment, and even the small houses of the people that have not yet been cleared of mud. This is not only a professional task, but also the responsibility of those who stand on the front line to protect the community's assets after natural disasters.

Mr. Tran Tri Cuong - Head of Technical Assets Department, Agribank Insurance shared that the extent of damage this time is very complicated in many industries, requiring appraisers to make careful assessments in very difficult actual conditions. “In many places we went, mud was still thick on the equipment, machines could not be tested, and the electrical system had not been restored. There were days when we had to wade through many kilometers of water or had to walk along muddy and slippery slopes. But the people need us, the businesses need us. We have to go to the site to accurately record the extent of damage so that the file can be resolved quickly,” he said.

Mr. Cuong also said that this year's appraisal and compensation work is being implemented according to three strategic priorities, to ensure efficiency and maximum support for affected areas.

Firstly, prioritizing the appraisal of Agribank’s internal assets. This is the top priority, because the rapid restoration of branches and transaction offices helps the banking system operate smoothly, maintaining the financial lifeline for flood-affected areas. When banks operate stably, cash flows are circulated promptly, supporting people and businesses to quickly rebuild after natural disasters.

Second, prioritize the appraisal of business assets. Damaged factories, warehouses, machinery lines and means of transport are all handled in a streamlined process. Early production restoration helps businesses avoid interruptions in orders and maintain the pace of local economic development.

Third, quick appraisal for individual clients. Each family returning to a stable life is an important link in the post-flood recovery process. Therefore, appraisers are directed to quickly process records of civil assets, vehicles, houses, etc. so that people can quickly overcome this difficult period.

Notably, with the close coordination from the Agribank system, many customers who borrowed capital from Agribank were compensated immediately when there was a preliminary loss estimate. This provided immediate financial resources, helping businesses and people to purchase materials, repair factories, vehicles and reproduce in time. “This is a very humane support, in the spirit of Agribank Insurance - not letting customers wait in the most difficult times,” Mr. Cuong emphasized.

Natural disasters are becoming more and more severe, but the Insurance system is still "out of the game". According to statistics, after three years of implementing the agricultural insurance support policy, the whole country has only more than 16,700 participating households, too small compared to more than 9 million agricultural production households. Most crops and livestock are still not protected by insurance, making farmers vulnerable to falling into the "impoverishment" spiral after natural disasters. When insurance has not yet played its role, the burden of overcoming the consequences falls on the State budget, the banking system and the people themselves.

Mr. Do Minh Hoang, Member of the Board of Directors of Agribank Insurance, shared that if the insurance system is expanded and implemented effectively, most of this burden can be completely shared. Agricultural insurance helps protect crops, livestock and people's income; property insurance protects houses and warehouses; personal insurance supports when accidents and injuries occur due to natural disasters. Thanks to that, people can feel secure in production, quickly recover after storms and floods, reduce pressure on the budget, banks and community organizations. This is a practical tool to help society respond more effectively to natural disasters, while improving the sustainable adaptability of rural communities. However, to further expand insurance coverage, insurance companies must design products that are truly suitable for people. Along with that, the state also needs to have policies to support and encourage insurance companies to develop products suitable for the agricultural market...

From the steps wading through the mud and flood to the closely compiled damage figures, Agribank Insurance clearly shows the efforts of an insurance company that not only performs the task of compensation, but also acts as a solid financial support for the community after natural disasters. Amid the harsh weather challenges, the timely presence and responsibility of the team of assessors is proof of the spirit of "companionship - sharing" that Agribank Insurance is implementing.
