Regarding dengue fever, since the beginning of the year, Kien Giang has ranked 10th out of 20 provinces in the Southern region and 7th out of 13 in the Mekong Delta region in terms of the number of cases. The total number of cases of dengue fever in the province to date is 1,238, down 27.1% over the same period in 2022. This year, the number of mild cases of dengue fever and warning signs is 1,176, severe cases are recorded 62, the rate of severe cases/cases is 5% and no deaths have been recorded. According to Mr. Chung Tan Thinh, all infectious diseases circulating in the province need attention to prevention and control, not to be subjective, negligent, or lose vigilance.
Pay special attention to hand, foot and mouth disease
Hand, foot and mouth disease is an infectious disease that is transmitted from person to person, mainly through the digestive tract. Children under 5 years old are at the highest risk of contracting the disease because their immune systems are not yet fully developed. Older children and adults are also at risk, but at a lower rate. In temperate zones, the disease occurs most often in the summer and early fall. In tropical countries, the disease can occur year-round. If young children often go to public places such as kindergartens, playgrounds with poor hygiene, etc., they will be at higher risk of contracting the disease.
Faced with the complicated developments of the hand, foot and mouth disease epidemic, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province has issued an official dispatch requesting directors of departments, heads of provincial-level sectors, branches and organizations and chairmen of district and city People's Committees to proactively coordinate with the health sector to synchronously and drastically deploy solutions to prevent and control hand, foot and mouth disease, focusing on areas with a high number of cases and at risk of disease outbreaks.
The Kien Giang Provincial Department of Health has also directed its affiliated units to closely monitor and supervise the epidemic situation, promptly detect and promptly handle newly emerging outbreaks; take samples for testing to identify pathogens; strengthen mobile anti-epidemic teams to promptly investigate, verify, handle outbreaks and support lower levels when necessary.
Organize well the treatment route, medical examination, admission, emergency and treatment of patients, paying special attention to severe cases to minimize deaths; effectively prevent and combat cross-infection in medical facilities. Proactively review resources, strengthen the operations of units, ensure adequate medicines, supplies, chemicals and equipment for disease prevention and control, emergency and treatment of patients in all situations./.
