According to a quick report from the Tan Giang Watershed Protection Forest Management Board, at 3:30 p.m. on May 2, during a forest patrol and inspection, the Phuoc Vinh Forest Protection Management Station discovered a fire at plot 8, sub-zone 179, Phuoc Thai commune (Ninh Phuoc), a forest area of ​​the Tan Giang Watershed Protection Forest Management Board.

Immediately after receiving the fire information from Phuoc Vinh Forest Protection Station and from the Forest Protection Department, Ninh Phuoc Forest Protection Department. The unit's Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Command mobilized the contracted forces including: Ninh Phuoc District Police, Ta Duong Village Community Group (Phuoc Thai), 4 Lien Son 2 Village Community Groups of Phuoc Vinh Commune, in coordination with Ninh Phuoc Forest Protection Force with more than 30 participants. The force was divided into 3 groups with specific tasks assigned to each group: 1 group directly fighting the fire at the scene, extinguishing the fire and creating runways to contain the fire, combining propaganda work, prohibiting people from burning and clearing fields during level IV forest fires; 1 group on duty at Lanh Ra Lake Forest Protection Post, Phuoc Vinh Commune, to provide food, provisions and essential needs, and 1 group on duty at Phuoc Vinh Forest Protection Station to quickly report fire information to the authorities.

After about 3 hours of firefighting efforts, the fire was basically controlled, contained, and prevented from spreading to other forest plots. On the morning of May 3, the forces returned to the scene to extinguish all the embers and verify the scene of the forest fire. The estimated damage caused by the forest fire was about 4.5 hectares, mainly protective forest. The fire mainly burned under the canopy (vegetation, shrubs, vines), and did not damage natural forest trees.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: After the results of the inspection and review of the fire, the entire fire was completely extinguished. The firefighting force was well-arranged, the department also directed the forest rangers, forest owners and community groups to continue to deploy forces in this area to review the fires to promptly overcome and handle them; continue to strengthen the management, protection and restoration of forests in the area where the forest fire occurred. At the same time, determine the cause of the fire to have a direction for handling in the coming time; strengthen the maintenance and deployment of forces at high-risk forest fire areas in the province to ensure timely prevention and extinguishment of fires from the beginning. In particular, in the prolonged hot weather, the risk of forest fires is very high, so the department has directed the forest rangers and forest owners to strengthen the management, patrolling and controlling of forests regularly; Propaganda, dissemination of forest education to people; good control of slash-and-burn farming... to limit forest fires.
