Ky Duyen performs confidently at the semi-finals of Miss Universe 2024

(Dan Tri) - On the morning of November 15 (Vietnam time), Miss Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen and representatives of nearly 130 countries and territories officially entered the semi-finals of Miss Universe 2024.

The semi-final is also an important and anticipated competition because based on the contestants' performances, the judges will select the top 30 for the final. In the semi-final, the beauties will compete in evening gowns, swimsuits, and national costumes.

The semi-final show was hosted by the MC duo R'Bonney Gabriel (Miss Universe 2022) and Sheynnis Palacios (Miss Universe 2023). The new thing in this year's semi-final is that the contestants did not reveal their names first, instead, they performed in their national costumes.

On stage, nearly 130 contestants took turns performing colorful designs imbued with the cultural characteristics of their countries as an impressive way to greet the audience. To make the designs stand out and increase the appeal of the performance, the contestants used a little choreography and acting skills.

Ky Duyen was one of the last contestants to perform. In the national costume performance, Ky Duyen did quite well. She walked confidently and gracefully, her face kept a natural look.

Ky Duyen's national costume is called Ngoc Diep Ky Nam. This costume is said to be inspired by the image of the Butterfly Parasol of the Nguyen Dynasty in the 20th century.

The sophisticated designs, combined with colors and patterns, contribute to honoring the ingenuity and meticulousness of ancient artisans, while telling the story of the strong vitality and transformation of Vietnamese culture.

The Vietnamese representative scored points with her sharp appearance and confident demeanor in her performance. The moment she opened her umbrella and let the petals fall created a beautiful effect.

One of the most memorable moments in the national costume competition was that of Japanese beauty Kaya Chakrabortty. She wore a Kimono to the Miss Universe 2024 semi-final stage. The Japanese beauty made a splash by wearing roller skates.

But near the last minute, during a spin, Kaya Chakrabortty almost fell because her roller skates were quite slippery. Fortunately, she quickly regained her balance and finished her performance.

In the swimsuit performance, Ky Duyen had confident steps. She stepped out with a towel toss; her face was cold, a model's standard. However, the Vietnamese beauty's performance was considered quite safe.

Representatives such as Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela all performed quite well in this competition.

In the evening gown performance, Ky Duyen chose a dress inspired by the Scorpio zodiac sign. The dress was a combination of two colors, gold and silver, with thousands of delicately attached stones and sequins, helping the beauty shine.

The impressive highlight of the design is the deep-cut bust and the 3D structure on the arms simulating two scorpion claws. The fishtail and clever slit help Ky Duyen become graceful, flattering her figure.

In the semi-finals, the CI Talk Media Award was presented to Cambodia’s representative - Davin Prasath. This is a subsidiary award of the competition. The Cambodian representative is a mother of one and a successful businesswoman in her home country.

The 33-year-old beauty is a notable face in this year's competition. After her performance in the semi-finals, many viewers predicted that the Cambodian representative would be in the top 30.

The Miss Universe 2024 final will take place on November 16 (Mexico time). During the competition night, the Organizing Committee will announce the top 30, top 12, and top 5 before selecting the beauty queen and 4 runners-up. In addition, the Organizing Committee will also announce the beauty queen awards by continent and the winners of the sub-categories will have a chance to make the top.

This year's contest has 128 contestants, the largest number in the history of the contest. Beauty Sheynnis Palacios will crown her successor at the final night.
