On the evening of June 2, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) coordinated with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Vietnam-UNDP partnership for sustainable development.
This is an opportunity for both sides to review the common achievements in the long-term cooperation relationship between Vietnam and UNDP and lay the foundation for the next cooperation direction.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong said: For many generations of Vietnamese, mentioning UNDP means mentioning projects that change vision, development thinking, accompanying the government to build legal corridors to call for foreign investment, business innovation, building multidimensional poverty standards, administrative reform, judicial reform, environmental protection, green growth, responding to climate change, applying science and technology and innovation.

Summarizing the achievements of 45 years of cooperation between Vietnam and UNDP, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong stated that since May 1978, UNDP has always stood side by side with Vietnam throughout its development journey from a poor country heavily devastated by war to a middle-income country, leading in poverty reduction and growth efforts. In addition, the cooperation methods between UNDP and Vietnam over the past 45 years have changed a lot, more suitable to Vietnam's development level. From "hand-holding" projects, to date, the projects have gradually shifted to a "partnership" coordination method, promoting national ownership and based on the priorities of the Vietnamese Government .
He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always considers UNDP as one of the leading, long-term and truly “close friends” partners, cooperating for the benefit of the Vietnamese people, for peace and prosperity in the region and the world.

In her speech, UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi emphasized three factors contributing to the success of the Vietnam - UNDP partnership, which are trust, shared values between the two sides, and openness and frank exchange.
“Viet Nam and UNDP have long worked to promote people-centered development and sustainable growth. Over the years, our trust has allowed us to expand our partnership to new areas of trade, private sector support, climate action and governance,” she said.
Ms. Ramla Khalidi said that UNDP's support for Vietnam is still necessary as the S-shaped country wishes to enhance its international position and reputation, as well as achieve the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. She affirmed that UNDP will continue to accompany Vietnam in the coming time.
