Presenting a speech reviewing the 50-year tradition of establishment and development, comrade Nguyen Viet Ha, Head of Lao Cai Forest Protection Department emphasized: On April 16, 1974, the Director General of the General Department of Forestry signed Decision No. 497 on the establishment of Lao Cai Provincial People's Forest Protection Department. After 50 years of construction and development, Lao Cai Forest Protection Department has grown stronger and stronger. Lao Cai Forest Protection Department has performed well its role as a specialized force in forest management and protection; a core force in forest development, forestry economic development and enforcement of forestry laws; met the requirements of political tasks and successfully implemented the goals and tasks of the province and the Central Government.
Lao Cai Forest Protection Department has proactively carried out inventory and reviewed the planning of 3 types of forests; promptly advised superiors to develop projects, plans, and strategies for forest protection and development, and management of special-use forests in Lao Cai province; proposed forest management and planning suitable for each period and the socio-economic development orientation of the province. Thanks to that, the area and forest coverage rate of the whole province have continuously increased. By the end of 2023, the forest area of the whole province was 391,144.8 hectares; the forest coverage rate reached 58.5%.
In addition, the development of the forest economy in Lao Cai in recent times has also achieved many important results, gradually becoming an important and sustainable economic sector, the basis for promoting the development of other economic sectors. The production value of the forestry sector has increased rapidly over time, from 2010 onwards, the average annual amount was about 800 billion VND; from 2021 onwards, the production value of forestry has increased by an average of 12% per year.
In 2023 alone, the forestry production value will reach VND 3,388 billion, an increase of VND 1,988 billion compared to 2015, accounting for over 18% of the agricultural and forestry sector; the average value of planted forests will reach VND 37 million/ha.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its establishment, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong sent a congratulatory letter to all cadres, civil servants and employees of the Provincial Forest Protection Department through the periods. In the letter, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed: Coming to Lao Cai today, we see the vast green of the forests, which is the result of a clear change in forestry thinking: "Developing social forestry", "Developing forestry economy associated with increasing forest cover and biodiversity conservation", "Developing hill and forest economy in a sustainable direction".
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong requested the Lao Cai forestry sector to continue promoting the tradition of solidarity, closeness, and grasp the situation to advise the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and Provincial People's Committee to issue appropriate policies and strategies, close to the actual situation; do a good job of state management on forest protection and development associated with forestry economic development; proactively prevent and fight forest fires and enforce forestry laws in the area.
At the ceremony, the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in their work.
