According to a reporter from Hai Phong Radio and Television, at around 10:00 a.m. on July 18, on Dong Nien Bridge in Viet Hoa Ward (Hai Phong City), hundreds of vehicles were moving slowly along the bridge. The bridge surface was being repaired and subsided, and the lanes were divided by barriers, causing the road surface to narrow, affecting the flow of traffic.

On the way from Hai Phong to Hanoi , vehicles had to line up and inch their way from Dong Nien bridge to Ngo Quyen overpass.

Previously, Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Corporation (Vidifi), the route management unit, announced traffic diversion and advised vehicles to move in the direction of avoiding Dong Nien Bridge.

Many motorbikes and cars under 16 seats still travel on National Highway 5 despite being notified.

The heavy traffic volume causes traffic congestion on Hoang Ngan service road from Ngo Quyen intersection to Dong Nien intersection, and vehicles move very slowly through this service road.

The number of vehicles on Hoang Ngan service road from Ngo Quyen intersection to Dong Nien intersection increased, vehicles moved slowly.

Dong Nien Bridge on Highway 5 has been built for a long time, the ground at the bridgehead is weak, while the actual daily traffic volume is currently 5-6 times higher than the original design. This situation has led to subsidence at the bridgehead area. After consulting with relevant parties, Vidifi has carried out repairs to the subsidence to ensure the safety of vehicles and the structure.
