Chess player Tran Tuan Minh (right) won the International Grandmaster category, Hanoi 2024 Grandmaster - International Master Chess Tournament.
On May 26, the 2024 International Grandmaster - Master tournament concluded with the competition in Hanoi. Grandmaster Tran Tuan Minh is the highest Elo-rated Vietnamese chess player participating in the Grandmaster category at this tournament.
After 9 games of the International Grandmaster, player Tran Tuan Minh achieved a total of 6 points to top the professional table. Second place was player Priasmoro Novendra (Indonesia) and third place was player Lou Yiping (China) with 5.5 points each (Priasmoro Novendra ranked higher due to better sub-indices).
The 2023 U12 World Champion Dau Khuong Duy had a quite successful tournament when he ranked 5th with 05 points, and was added 09 Elo to surpass the 2,400 Elo level (before the tournament, Dau Khuong Duy's international Elo coefficient was 2,395).
Meanwhile, in the Grandmasters' table, after 09 games, Grandmaster Firman Syah Farid (Indonesia) won the number 01 position with a total score of 6.5. Second place was player Cu Ivan Travis (Philippines) with 06 points while the young face of Vietnamese chess, Duong Vu Anh, had 05 points, so he ranked third.
The tournament is attended by 20 players from 06 countries: India, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and host Vietnam. According to international regulations, the competition results of the players in the tournament will be sent to the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to calculate the International Grandmaster (GM), International Master (IM), FIDE Master (FM) standards and calculate the international Elo coefficient in June 2024.
The Organizing Committee awarded prizes to players with high achievements in the tournament.
The Hanoi 2024 Grandmaster - International Master Chess Tournament is part of the 2024 Grandmaster - International Master Chess Tournament system, taking place at the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center (50 Dao Duy Tu Street - Hoan Kiem).
The tournament is organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Future Grandmasters Club to obtain international standards (International Grandmaster (GM)/International Master (IM)) for athletes; help athletes improve their international Elo coefficient; obtain international referee standards for referees participating in the tournament.
Previously, at the Quang Ninh 2024 International Grandmaster - Master Chess Tournament (from May 14 to 19), there were 02 players who achieved the International Grandmaster standard (including Pham Tran Gia Phuc) and 04 players who achieved the International Master standard.
