Over time, relics that are hundreds of years old and have very unique values not only suffer from deterioration due to "old age" or the impact of climate change, but more painfully, are being encroached upon by humans. This situation has been happening in many localities in the country, including Bac Lieu , which is an alarm bell, requiring timely and fundamental protection solutions.

MULTIPLE INVASIVE AGENTS
Recently, social media has spread a video of a man brazenly sitting on the Nguyen Dynasty throne on display at the Hue Imperial Citadel. Not only was this behavior indecent, this person also intentionally broke part of the throne's arm. This is an original artifact that has been recognized as a national treasure, a unique artistic masterpiece with great historical and cultural value. The intentional destruction of the relic has caused outrage and condemnation from the community.
In Bac Lieu, the situation of relic encroachment comes from many factors. In addition to the objective causes due to the impact of climate change, rising tides, limited funding for conservation but complicated procedures, there is also the theft of valuable artifacts at relics, especially religious relics with lax security. For example, the Thanh Hoang ancient temple, Vinh Phuoc An pagoda, and Quan De pagoda in Bac Lieu city have repeatedly "called for help" because of the theft of artifacts.
In addition, encroachment on relic land and unauthorized renovation without reporting or permission are also common, considered a form of relic destruction. According to the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, relic management cannot be closely monitored, so the management board at some temples has decided to repair the structure whenever it is degraded. For example, when the roof of a temple is damaged, they replace it with ceramic tiles to make it look nicer, leading to a loss of its original value.
Recently, the press has reported that many monuments have become hot spots for drug addiction, littering, and graffiti. Many shops and stalls built around monuments without permission have affected the beauty and solemnity.

RAISING RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROTECTING MONUMENTS
Whether the damage to a relic is due to objective or subjective reasons, it still requires the cooperation of many parties to prevent and protect it in a timely manner. Along with adequate investment resources for conservation work and strong sanctions for acts of intentional destruction, the most fundamental and effective solution is to raise awareness and responsibility of the whole society in protecting relics.
Regarding the work of protecting relics, Ms. Tran Thi Huynh Dao - Head of the Cultural and Social Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Council said that the Department of Culture and the Department of Education and Training of localities must actively bring students to relics to experience, compared to "dry" learning in school, this method is more effective because of its vividness and visuality. In propaganda work, it is not only aimed at officials but must spread to the people, because they will be the propagandists in the community and tourists.
In response to the destruction of national treasures, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh has directed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to conduct a comprehensive review and assessment of the work of displaying, preserving, protecting and strengthening measures to ensure security and safety for national treasures nationwide; guide, inspect and supervise the work of preserving and restoring relics and heritages. In particular, promote propaganda andeducation to raise awareness and awareness of protecting cultural heritage in the community.
Following this directive, the Ministry has issued a document requesting provinces to develop, complete and promptly implement plans to protect each national treasure. In particular, measures must be taken to prevent theft, fire, natural disasters and other risks of damage...
To promote the value of relics, we must first do a good job of protecting them. Acts that show respect and comply with legal regulations will also help reduce encroachment. In particular, we need to realize that protecting relics means protecting the historical and cultural traditions of the nation, and preserving them for future generations.
