"The players tried. We lost 0-4 and learned a lot from this match," coach Gao Fulin said after the 32nd SEA Games semi-final between Cambodia and Vietnam.
The home team is led by a foreign coach, has naturalized players and has made significant progress compared to previous SEA Games. However, the Cambodian team is still far behind the Vietnamese team in terms of skill.
Vietnam 4-0 Cambodia
"We know the Vietnamese team is very strong. The two teams are different in class. Hopefully in the future, Cambodian women's football can compete more competitively with Vietnam.
Before the match, we did not think we would lose so badly. I expected to get a draw. However, after the match, everyone could see the gap between the two teams. The Vietnamese team has more technique and experience. Our players are still young," said coach Gao Fulin.

The Cambodian players only caused trouble for the Vietnamese team in the first half. After the first goal, the home team collapsed and conceded two more goals before the break. Goals from Ngan Thi Van Su, Pham Hai Yen and Tran Thi Thuy Trang helped the Vietnamese team lead 3-0 in the first half.
At the end of the match, Huynh Nhu scored from the penalty spot to seal a 4-0 victory for the defending champions. The Cambodian team lost and had to play Thailand for the bronze medal.
"We will try our best in the next match. The players must try to play better against Thailand, must do something for the home audience. Compared to before, the Cambodian team has improved. The players coordinate better. That's why we have a place in the semi-finals," said coach Gao Fulin.
