PSG produced the biggest margin of victory in a Champions League final as they thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich to lift Europe's most prestigious trophy for the first time.

PSG's historic victory came in the first season since Mbappe left the Parc des Princes to join Real Madrid. "The big day has finally arrived," Mbappe shared on his personal page. "A victory in true team style. Congratulations PSG."

During his six seasons at PSG, Mbappe has won six Ligue 1 titles, four French Cups and two League Cups. However, he has never brought home the Champions League trophy that PSG has always craved.

PSG have been chasing the title for years since being bought by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011. The club has brought in expensive superstars such as Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi, but has still failed to reach the summit of the continent, most recently in 2020, when they lost to Bayern Munich in the final in Lisbon.

The Paradox of Choices

In 2022, Kylian Mbappe shocked the football world when he refused to join Real Madrid to stay at PSG, despite the attractive offers from the Spanish Royal team.

Mbappe joined Real Madrid shortly after they won their 15th Champions League last year. It seemed like it would be the turning point that would take him to the top of Europe, but on the contrary, Real Madrid were soon eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2025 season.

Ironically, PSG - his former team - won the 2025 Champions League after many years of waiting. Without Mbappe, they found strength from the collective and the right spirit at the right time. While Real Madrid and Mbappe ended the season in regret, PSG wrote a golden page in history without the person who used to be their biggest symbol.

In PSG's brilliant victory last night, young French talent Desire Doue shone brightly when he scored a double and assisted the opening goal for Achraf Hakimi.

The other two goals were scored by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and 19-year-old substitute Senny Mayulu, completing the biggest margin of victory in Champions League final history.
