Lai Chau: Safely handling a large quantity of unexploded ordnance...

On April 16th, the Lai Chau Provincial Military Command directed the Engineering Corps to coordinate with local Party committees, authorities, and relevant agencies to safely handle a large quantity of unexploded ordnance and explosives remaining from the war.

The Engineering Corps of the Lai Chau Provincial Military Command neutralized mortar shells left over from the war.

Earlier, while digging holes for planting trees, Border Guard Post 281 Dao San, Phong Tho District (Lai Chau Province) discovered several mortar shells lying about 60cm below the surface, with their fuses still intact. Immediately after receiving the information, the Lai Chau Provincial Military Command reported to the competent authorities and directed the Engineering Corps to collect 20 shells. These explosive materials were identified as 82mm mortar shells remaining from the fighting to defend the northern border.

Immediately after collection, the Engineering Corps of the Lai Chau Provincial Military Command proceeded with controlled detonation in accordance with regulations, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and technical equipment.

It is known that over the years, the Engineering Corps of the Lai Chau Provincial Military Command has received dozens of reports and safely handled many types of ammunition and explosives remaining from the war, ensuring absolute safety.
