(QBĐT) - In recent years, in Dong Hoi City, there are more and more "plastic-free" models appearing in households, traditional markets, supermarkets, schools, and offices. This is the result of the entire political system in Dong Hoi City in its efforts to propagate, mobilize, guide, and direct groups and individuals to join hands in responding to environmental protection.

Small actions, big meaning
One afternoon in June 2025, Ms. Pham Thi Minh, Head of the Women's Association of Dong Hai Residential Group, Dong Hai Ward, pedaled her bicycle to the ward People's Committee headquarters to support and hand over a large amount of plastic bags for reuse at local restaurants, eateries, markets, etc.
For over 2 years now, many women in Dong Hai residential area have been classifying their daily household waste into 5 different groups and types.
The model of reducing single-use plastic bags at Dong Hoi market contributes to spreading green lifestyle in the community.
Specifically, for plastic bags and cloth bags that can still be used, the women of Dong Hai TDP collect them, wash them, dry them, and bring them to the branch at the end of the month to support them. After that, the branch will bring them to the ward to collect and distribute them to necessary places such as shops and markets. Excess food and food is no longer trash but is collected separately in a plastic bin, placed next to the public trash bin. At the end of the day, local and foreign livestock households will come to collect them as feed for livestock and poultry. Damaged flowers, vegetables, tubers, fruits, etc. are composted with microorganisms to make them into fertilizer for ornamental plants and crops in the home garden to grow more lushly. In particular, damaged beer cans, soft drinks, plastic bottles, cardboard, iron, steel, aluminum, plastic utensils, etc. are all brought by the women to the "Green House" located at the Dong Hai TDP cultural house to support the charity fund.
Spread green lifestyle
The spread of "plastic-free" models does not stop at households. Recently, in offices, schools, businesses, and traditional markets in Dong Hoi City, many "plastic-free" models have appeared that are very practical and environmentally friendly. This also contributes to building a green lifestyle, gradually realizing the goal of building Dong Hoi into a Rose City that is not only beautiful in terms of landscape but also green, clean, beautiful, civilized, environmentally friendly and more sustainable.
Women in Dong Hai Residential Area (Dong Hai Ward, Dong Hoi City) classify waste every day.
Notably, the Women's Union of Dong Hoi City has always played a key role in replicating models of anti-plastic pollution, saying no to plastic waste, and spreading a green lifestyle. The Union has organized communication classes, guiding traders in Dong Hoi market and Nam Ly market to raise awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste. Thereby, hundreds of traders in these two markets have signed a commitment to practice the model "Market to reduce plastic bags"; 200 traders have put up signs for their plastic-reducing stalls, with messages such as: "Here we sell goods without plastic bags", "Every day we reduce plastic bags for the future of the Rose City"...
In addition, the association has increased coordination with communes and wards in the city to propagate and mobilize more members and women to participate in implementing and replicating the model of organic fertilizer production using indigenous IMO microorganisms. Up to now, 15/15 wards/communes in the city, with more than 1,350 households, have applied organic fertilizer production using indigenous IMO microorganisms. With the support of WWF Vietnam, the Women's Union of Dong Hoi city has also allocated 24 "Green Houses" to 12 units to collect recyclable waste. Up to now, the whole city has replicated nearly 100 "Green Houses", contributing to creating the habit of waste classification in households, while creating a fund from selling scrap to raise funds for association activities, helping people in particularly difficult circumstances in the area...
“To effectively build the model of “Green School - Say No to Plastic Waste”, the school has increased propaganda and mobilized all staff, teachers and students to form a responsible lifestyle towards the environment, such as: Using glass bottles to hold water in meetings; minimizing the use of plastic bottles and straws, nylon bags, foam boxes, disposable plastic cups on school grounds; actively mobilizing relatives and the community to join hands to implement and spread a green lifestyle...”, said Principal of Dong Hoi High School Hoang Van Hai.
Joining hands to protect the environment, in recent years, Co.opmart Quang Binh supermarket has implemented many actions and solutions to respond to World Environment Day, the peak month of action for the environment. Ms. Luong Thi Kieu Lan Chi, Director of Co.opmart Quang Binh supermarket said: Customers with a shopping bill of 300,000 VND or more and do not receive plastic bags from the cashier or use any environmental bags will be given 35 bonus points on their loyalty card to redeem gifts and discounts. In addition, the unit also organizes for children to arrange paper bags on the topic of the environment; organizes the collection of old batteries; encourages customers to use environmental bags and paper boxes when shopping and responds to "Day without plastic bags"; organizes environmental cleaning along My Canh beach (Bao Ninh), the Nhat Le river embankment area and some central city routes; giving Co.opmart reusable environmental bags to people going to the market... In particular, the supermarket also cooperates with WWF Vietnam to carry out propaganda programs for staff to understand and raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste, its impact on the environment, animals, and human health.
