Quynh Son village (Bac Son commune) is the first community tourism village of Lang Son province, formed in Bac Son land with a culture rich in national identity, majestic natural landscape and very diverse cuisine . After nearly 15 years of implementing the community tourism model in Quynh Son (Bac Son commune), Quynh Son community tourism village has become a familiar destination chosen by tourists when traveling to Lang Son.
Mr. Duong Hiep, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: I visited Quynh Son Community Tourism Village and Huu Lien Community Tourism Village, both of which I experienced unique local activities. My family and I could not believe that a mountainous province has so many landscapes, cultures and unique cuisines. My family and I will continue to Lang Son to visit the remaining community tourism villages.
In addition to Quynh Son Community Tourism Village, in Lang Son province there are 5 other community tourism villages recognized by the Provincial People's Committee: the old Huu Lien community tourism village and the old Yen Thinh commune community tourism village (of the old Huu Lung district), now Huu Lien commune; Vu Lang commune community tourism village; Ban Khieng community tourism village (Loc Binh commune); Chien Thang commune community tourism village (old Bac Son district), now Vu Le commune.
Mr. Trinh Minh Tuan, Chairman of Bac Son Commune People's Committee shared: In recent years, Quynh Son village has become a bright spot in community tourism development, with a model of harmoniously combining conservation and development. And currently in the village, there are 12 households providing homestay services, providing accommodation for hundreds of tourists. Specifically, in the first 10 months of 2025, Quynh Son Community Tourism Village attracted 15,688 visitors, of which nearly 1,000 stayed at homestays of households in the village.
In recent years, the Party committees and authorities of the districts that previously had community tourism villages and the new communes after the merger (Yen Thinh and Huu Lien communes merged into Huu Lien commune) together with the local people have invested in and built a civilized tourism environment, keeping up with the trend but not losing the traditional culture. Many households in the community tourism villages have promptly seized the opportunity and trend and participated in developing homestay accommodation businesses.
According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in previous years, on average, community tourism villages attracted about 65,000 visitors each year. In the first 10 months of 2025, despite the changes due to the merger of old communes, the promotion, investment and development of community tourism has always been of interest to authorities at all levels, so the number of visitors coming to visit, experience and stay at community tourism villages has reached more than 70,000 visitors.
Building a community tourism brand
Tourists' impressions of community tourism villages in Lang Son province show that, along with other types of tourism, community tourism is gradually becoming a typical and distinctive tourism brand of Lang Son province.
Mr. Duong Cong Chich - one of the first households to participate in the community tourism model since 2010, said: when the old Bac Son district government promoted the community tourism model in the form of homestay resort, the family took advantage of the stilt house to welcome guests to stay each time they came to Quynh Son village. After a few years, seeing the effectiveness of the model, the family continued to invest, renovate the stilt house, and built 5 more small stilt houses to welcome more guests to stay.
Implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, in recent times, the provincial tourism sector has built a system of internal signboards at community tourism sites; opened training courses for trainees who are members of the management board on tourism site management and tourism program operations; supported 12 sets of tools and equipment to standardize food and beverage services; supported the construction of an experiential service model for tourists... Thereby, gradually standardizing the activities of welcoming guests, resting,... at community tourism villages.
Talking with Mr. Luu Ba Mac, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism: In recent years, especially from 2023 to now, Lang Son province has paid special attention to developing community tourism. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the culture and tourism sector and authorities at all levels to promote activities and support businesses to invest in community tourism development areas in communes with beautiful natural scenery and cultural features imbued with the identity of ethnic minorities in Lang Son province; focusing on mobilizing investment resources to develop community tourism spots in a civilized, modern, high-quality direction, maximizing potential and strengths while still preserving and conserving the very unique traditions of people and nature.
In addition, every year, most of the former districts and current communes with community tourism villages in the province organize many cultural, sports and tourism events to promote and advertise cultural values and tourism products to attract domestic and foreign tourists. Through these events, it will be an opportunity to promote and introduce the potential and advantages of community tourism and policies to attract investment in tourism development in Lang Son province.
In fact, in order to develop community tourism into a typical and distinctive tourism brand, since 2023, Lang Son province has paid special attention to issuing mechanisms and policies to support and encourage the development of community tourism. The construction of community tourism villages according to ASEAN standards is one of the concrete steps to realize the project, which is expected to create momentum and a breakthrough in the development of community tourism in Lang Son province.
Lang Son province's investment in developing community tourism in the right direction has reaped "sweet fruits", that is, 2025 - a year with many memorable milestones for community tourism in Lang Son province. On October 17, 2025, at the Conference of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) held in Huzhou city, China, Quynh Son Community Tourism Village was honored as one of the "Best Tourism Villages 2025". This is the first time a tourist village in Lang Son province and one of the few representatives of Vietnam has been honored to receive this noble international title.
Not only that, before that, in January 2025, Lang Son province was also honored to receive 2 ASEAN tourism awards 2025 for the categories: ASEAN Community Tourism Award - CBT ASEAN for Huu Lien community tourism site (Huu Lien commune, old Huu Lung district) and ASEAN Homestay Award for Yen Thinh Commune Homestay Cluster (old Huu Lung district).
The awards that Lang Son's community tourism villages received in 2025 demonstrate the persistent efforts of the government and people of Lang Son province in general, and communes with community tourism villages in particular, in preserving and promoting national cultural identity, developing tourism associated with the community, protecting the environment and sustainable development. In particular, being honored at regional and international tourism forums has gradually affirmed the position and position of Lang Son province in community tourism.
To continue affirming the brand in developing community tourism, on July 15, 2025, the People's Council of Lang Son province issued Resolution No. 19/2025/NQ-HDND Promulgating regulations on a number of policies to support the development of community tourism in Lang Son province and promote the value of the UNESCO Lang Son global geopark in the period 2025 - 2030.
Resolution No. 19 has focused on issuing mechanisms and policies to support and encourage the development of community tourism in Lang Son province, thereby will continue to create a strong "push" for community tourism development in Lang Son province.
