Sentenced to life in prison for drug trafficking

AGO - On November 19, the People's Court of An Giang province sentenced defendant Tu Thanh Tuan (48 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) to life in prison for illegal drug trafficking.

According to the indictment, on August 26, 2024, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Kien Giang Provincial Police (now An Giang Province) received a criminal complaint about Tuan bringing drugs from Ho Chi Minh City to Go Quao District (now Go Quao Commune) to sell to Huynh Hai Duong and Nguyen Huu Tinh.

On the evening of August 27, 2024, the police force arranged an ambush to arrest Tuan and the evidence in Go Quao commune; confiscated 2 nylon packages suspected to be drugs and more than 60 million VND.

Through examination, the two nylon packages above were drugs weighing 160.4169 grams of methamphetamine.

During the investigation, Tuan confessed that from April 2024 to August 27, 2024, Tuan illegally sold drugs to Duong, Tinh and a person named Tung, a total of 26 times, 26 bags with a total amount of more than 1 billion VND.

During the process of arrest, detention, investigation, prosecution and trial, Tuan did not admit to the crime of illegal drug trafficking. However, based on the record of arrest, video data and related documents, there was sufficient evidence to prove Tuan's crime of illegal drug trafficking.
