Laos: Comrade Khamtay Siphandone passed away

According to a special announcement on the evening of April 2 from the Central Committee of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the National Assembly, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction, General Khamtay Siphandone, former Chairman of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, former President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and veteran revolutionary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on April 2, 2025, at the age of 102.

According to a VNA reporter in Vientiane, General Khamtay Siphandone is one of the first generation core leaders of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee, who led and directed the previous national democratic revolution and the cause of protecting and developing the country.

General Khamtay Siphandone was also a pioneer in organizing and implementing the Party's comprehensive and principled renovation policy. He was an exemplary patriot, revolutionary, and an outstanding leader of the Party and the Lao people.

Throughout his life, General Khamtay Siphandone devoted his intelligence and strength to the revolutionary cause of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, to the development of the country and to the prosperous and happy life of the Lao people of all ethnic groups.

The passing of General Khamtay Siphandone is a great loss to the Lao Party, State and people of all ethnic groups.

In this moment of infinite sorrow and regret, the entire Party, the entire Army and all Lao people of all ethnic groups will turn the infinite sorrow and regret for the eternal passing of Comrade General Khamtay Siphandone into practical action, unite alongside the Party Central Committee, promote the heroic tradition of the country and the Party, determined to implement the Party's renewal policy in depth, continue to perfect the people's democratic regime and advance towards the goal of socialism.

To express our respect, deep gratitude and infinite sorrow for General Khamtay Siphandone, the Central Committee of the Party, the National Assembly , the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction have decided to hold a national funeral for 5 days, from April 3-7 at the National Convention Center in the capital Vientiane.
