Viewers of the clip of a car dragging a traffic police motorbike, sparks flying on the road in Bac Giang, were horrified. The driver was so reckless and disregarded the lives of others.
The incident occurred on the night of January 24, 2024, when a working group of Tan Uyen District Police (Bac Giang Province) stopped a pickup truck for inspection. The driver of the car did not comply but accelerated past the checkpoint, then crashed into a police motorbike and dragged it on the road.
The next afternoon, Ha Quang Tung presented himself at Tan Yen District Police. Tung confessed to having drunk alcohol (about 5 cups at noon that day, causing the incident).
Previously, at around 8:00 p.m. on January 21, a working group of the Traffic Police - Public Order Team of Vinh City Police ( Nghe An Province) signaled a car to stop, but the driver did not comply and turned around, driving in the opposite direction on Tran Phu Street. The police approached and signaled the vehicle to stop, but the driver crashed into the officer standing in front. The results of the alcohol test showed that driver D violated the level of 0.399 mg/L of breath.
On January 7, in Hanoi , a driver drove over Captain NVT to avoid a breathalyzer test. Captain T suffered a traumatic brain injury.
There are many cases of cars and motorbikes crashing into traffic police when they are signaled to stop for alcohol testing.
Those who drive their vehicles into traffic police, not to mention resisting law enforcement officers, are endangering the lives of police officers. The act has been completed, the perpetrator has the will and ability, and whether the consequences are fatal or not depends on other factors. For example, Captain NVT was lucky to have a traumatic brain injury, otherwise he could have lost his life.
Why do so many people dare to drive into traffic police? It is easy to explain, because they are drunk. At that time, the "straw hero" blood rises, and they think the sky is the limit. Those who are drunk, if they do not drive into traffic police, will drive like crazy, causing accidents. When they sober up, they see the consequences, and it is too late to regret.
Therefore, cases of drunk driving must be punished severely, without leniency, regardless of who the violator is or their position. In fact, the higher the position, the more strictly the law must be followed to set an example.
As for those who drive into traffic police, criminal prosecution must be initiated if there is sufficient evidence. We should not wait for the police to be injured or die before we prosecute them, but consider that act as intentionally endangering the lives of others.
Only strict punishment by law can eliminate alcoholism.
