America Because she went into labor early before her due date, bride Sara married her boyfriend Brandon Perry right in the hospital's maternity ward.
The special wedding was reported by international media on April 15. The couple had originally planned to get married on February 16, believing they had plenty of time before their baby was born. However, on the morning of February 13, at 35 weeks pregnant, Sara's water suddenly broke. She and her fiancé rushed to Saint Luke's East Hospital in Lee's Summit, where she sadly confided in a medical staff member that they would miss their scheduled wedding.
The story was passed around by nurses, and finally the hospital decided to hold a small wedding for the couple right before Sara went into labor. The unexpected idea made the young couple extremely excited.
"It's something we both wanted, there's no reason to delay," Perry said as he went to his car to get his marriage certificate.
Nurses made a bouquet and veil out of large bandages. Sara's white wedding dress was made from hospital bed sheets. Sara said she was overwhelmed and excited about it. Hospital staff also covered the delivery room door with colored paper to create a backdrop for Sara and Perry's wedding photos, with the words "Newlyweds" cut out in a simple collage.

The wedding ceremony took place quickly in about 30 minutes, because Sara was in labor and having contractions, but still had all the rituals from exchanging rings, taking vows to tossing the wedding bouquet.
About nine hours after the wedding, the Perrys welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Oliver. The baby boy spent his first weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit and is now healthy and discharged from the hospital.
"He's the sweetest thing I've ever received, we're going to celebrate it for years to come," Sara said.
Her husband said the couple still planned to have a more elaborate wedding in Mexico or a Caribbean country later this year. However, the special wedding in the hospital will be a memory the couple will never forget.
