From August 28 to 31, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang led a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to visit Texas and California (USA) as part of a working trip to the US and Canada. On August 29, the delegation attended the Vietnam National Day celebration organized by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Houston. Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that Vietnam's development path has always been marked by the good feelings and support of friends around the world , including the US, and highly appreciated the US's continued support for a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam. Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang expressed her emotion witnessing the moment the Vietnamese flag flew over City Hall, saying that this was a clear demonstration of the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the US in general and with San Francisco in particular.

The Deputy Minister thanked the San Francisco City Government for its important contributions to the process of promoting the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship, especially its determination to establish a sister city relationship with Ho Chi Minh City before the two countries normalized diplomatic relations. Ms. Hang also received a statement signed by the Mayor of San Francisco announcing September 2, 2024 as the Vietnam-US Friendship Heritage Day in the city and county of San Francisco in 2024.

During the activities, Ms. Hang also highly appreciated the development of the Vietnamese community in the US in general and in the states of Texas and California in particular. She expressed her joy at the integration, success and outstanding contributions of the community to the local society, and thanked the sentiments and contributions of the people to their homeland and country.

Also within the framework of the working trip, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and the delegation met with young overseas Vietnamese experts working at Apple, Microsoft, Meta, LinkedIn, Lucid, Boston Consultin Group, Deloitte, Biamarin; met with the Vietnamese business community in San Jose and Oakland, California. The delegation visited a number of religious establishments and exchanged with Vietnamese religious dignitaries in Texas and California. Ms. Hang hopes that religious establishments will pay more attention to maintaining Vietnamese language and culture for the younger generation, through activities during holidays and Tet; organizing Vietnamese language classes, building Vietnamese bookcases for the community.
