According to Hanoi 's 2022-2023 school year plan, preschool and high school will finish the second semester program before May 25 and end the school year before May 31. Thus, preschool and high school students in the capital will have summer vacation from June 1.
Grade 9 students will continue to review and take the entrance exam to public high schools on June 10 and 11. Grade 12 students will review and take the high school graduation exam on June 28 and 29 according to the national schedule set by the Ministry of Education and Training .
Hanoi also requires schools to complete primary school programs and consider recognizing secondary school graduation before June 30 and complete primary school enrollment before July 31.

In Ho Chi Minh City , according to the 2022-2023 school year plan, preschool, primary, secondary, high school, and continuingeducation levels will close the school year from May 22 to 26. Thus, Ho Chi Minh City students will start summer vacation from May 27.
For grade 9 students, they will review for the grade 10 entrance exam on June 6-7. Grade 5 students will take the exam for grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted on July 4.
During the summer break, districts will organize enrollment for the first level. Preschool enrollment starts from July 1st and results will be announced on August 1st. First grade enrollment starts from June 15th and results will be announced on August 1st. Sixth grade enrollment starts from July 1st and results will be announced on August 1st.
The Ministry of Education and Training allows provinces and cities to develop their own school year plans suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions in their localities, ensuring that general education has 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for semester I and 17 weeks for semester II); continuing education has 32 weeks of actual study for grades 8, 9, 11, 12 and 35 weeks for grades 6, 7, 10.
The Ministry of Education and Training notes that in case of natural disasters or epidemics, the school opening and extension of the school year must not exceed 15 days compared to regulations. Other special cases must be reported to the Ministry before implementation. In addition to the fixed schedules, the Director of the Department of Education and Training will decide to let students take time off from school in case of extreme weather or natural disasters and arrange make-up classes.
