The Argentine star admitted that he was not satisfied with life at PSG. However, Messi feared that Barca would have to "sell players or reduce wages" if they invited him to play.
At the age of 35, Messi surprised many when he chose David Beckham's Inter Miami, instead of accepting a huge sum of money from Saudi Arabia.
Sharing on Mundo Deportivo and Sport , Messi said: "I have always supported Barcelona for many years, I am a loyal fan.
I have spoken a lot with coach Xavi. We communicate regularly and have heard reports about La Liga giving the green light.
However, there are still many things missing to be able to return to Barca. I do not want to be responsible when the club has to sell players or reduce members' salaries. That makes me tired."
Messi added: "I really want to return to Barcelona. But after what happened two years ago, I don't want to fall into the same situation, leaving my future to someone else.
I want to make my own decision. So, the return to Nou Camp cannot happen. Although I really want this, it cannot be done. I will join Inter Miami."
Lionel Messi hopes that moving to the US professional league will help him regain his inspiration for playing football.
"At this time, I want to step out of the spotlight and think more about my family. The past two years have not been very happy on a personal level.
However, I had a spectacular month with the World Cup championship. Now I hope to find the joy of playing football again, enjoying time with my family and children every day."
According to BBC , the MLS (Major League Soccer) team is backed by Apple and Adidas to bring Messi to the US.
Apple currently holds the broadcasting rights to MLS, while Adidas is the league's kit supplier. Messi's presence is expected to benefit both brands.
Apple is making a four-part documentary about Messi's four World Cup appearances. Adidas, meanwhile, is a long-time partner of the Argentine superstar.
A source said the German sportswear brand is willing to share its profits with Messi if he joins the MLS.
Inter Miami was founded in 2018 by David Beckham, Jorge Mas and Jose Mas. Beckham is currently the club's President.
After 5 years, Inter Miami still hasn't won any titles, so Messi's presence promises to be a huge boost for the club in its ambition to become a big team in MLS.
