On the morning of October 31, Messi was honored at the 2023 Golden Ball award organized by France Football magazine. This is the 8th time in his career that the Argentine superstar has won this noble award.

As of today (November 4), France Football magazine has announced the detailed number of votes for this award, in which Messi is superior to the rest. Specifically, El Pulga received 462 points, 105 points ahead of the second-placed Haaland (357 points).
Meanwhile, third-placed Mbappe received 270 points. Next in line are De Bruyne (100 points) and Rodri (57 points), Vinicius Jr (49 points), Julian Alvarez (28 points), Victor Osimhen (24 points), Bernardo Silva (20 points) and Luka Modric (19 points).
The 2023 Ballon d'Or award results were based on the votes of 100 journalists representing teams in the FIFA top 100. Of these, 68 journalists chose Messi as the top player, 20 people gave the number one position to Haaland. The Portuguese journalist was the only one who did not choose Messi, Haaland or Mbappe as the number one player. This person voted for compatriot Bernardo Silva.

With Messi winning an overwhelming number of votes, the controversy about El Pulga not being as worthy as Haaland in the 2023 Ballon d'Or race can be temporarily ended.
In another development, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced a partnership with media group Groupe Amaury (owner of France Football and L'Équipe magazines) to co-organize the 2024 Ballon d'Or vote and award.
The structure of the Ballon d'Or awards remains the same, with two new awards for the best men's and women's coach being added. This means that UEFA will no longer award the Best Player in Europe award in August. Instead, the award will be merged with the Ballon d'Or.
This is the second time France Football magazine has agreed to merge the awards after previously partnering with FIFA from 2010-2015.
