For nearly a year now, the family of Ms. Le Thi Huynh, in Chieng hamlet, Phu Cuong commune (Dai Tu) has been using an improved furnace provided by Thai Nguyen Tota Cooperative to roast tea. With the advantage of optimal fuel combustion and using cheap firewood, the Tota furnace saves up to 30% compared to conventional furnaces. Thanks to that, her family saves 4-5 million VND per month compared to before.
Ms. Le Thi Huynh: Not only does this furnace save fuel, it also helps me reduce labor and working time. If before I needed 4 employees for each 10-hour shift, now I only need 3 employees working for 8 hours with the same tea output.
Unlike the method of using firewood or coal to burn directly on the surface of the tea roasting iron, the Tota furnace will burn fuel in a separate combustion chamber and then blow hot air onto the surface of the tea roasting iron. To optimize space as well as optimize fuel sources, raw firewood is chopped before being put into the furnace. In addition, to burn fuel thoroughly and create clean heat, meaning that the hot air blown into the tea roasting iron has almost no smoke or soot, the Tota furnace is specially designed to perform 2 cycles of burning fuel mixed with air in a certain ratio. Thereby, the Tota furnace not only creates a clean heat source for roasting tea to produce clean, high-quality tea products, but also creates biochar, which can be used as fertilizer for plants.

Mr. Trieu Duc Luyen, founding member of Thai Nguyen Tota Cooperative, Phu Cuong Commune (Dai Tu): From the reality of tea production using traditional methods in the locality, which often consumes a lot of firewood and emits a lot of smoke and dust, we have researched and created the Tota furnace and established a cooperative to commercialize the product to the people.

Recently, at the 2024 National Women's Entrepreneurship Competition, the Project of Applying technological solutions to serve the recovery of agricultural and forestry waste in the direction of green energy associated with clean heat incinerators of Thai Nguyen Tota Cooperative was honored with the Second Prize. This is a worthy reward for a typical green economic model with the participation of many local women.
Ms. Pham Thi Nhung, Head of the Women's Entrepreneurship Project, Thai Nguyen Tota Cooperative, shared: Through this contest, we want to spread a message to everyone that we should actively use energy from renewable fuels such as excess firewood and agricultural waste.
At Thai Nguyen Tota Cooperative, we organize human resources, mostly female seasonal rural workers, to collect and utilize the excess firewood and branches during the forest exploitation process to produce fuel at low cost. A special feature is that the Tota furnace is equipped with a sensor in the fuel tank to alert the operator to actively control the fuel. Thanks to that, production costs are optimized and the quality of tea is more consistent.

Ms. Duong Thanh Luyen, Chairwoman of the Dai Tu District Women's Union, shared: We highly appreciate the initial success of the Tota clean heat furnace. In the coming time, the District Women's Union will continue to support Thai Nguyen Tota Cooperative to promote and expand its customer market to the entire district and other localities. We will also support the Cooperative to improve its management capacity through training and practical programs. At the same time, we will support the Cooperative to access preferential loans to continue researching and developing more complete products.
Currently, Thai Nguyen Tota Cooperative is applying for the rental of Tota clean heat-generating stoves for tea producers to serve production. After each tea harvest, these heat-generating devices are inspected, warranted, and repaired by the Cooperative's technical staff to prepare for the next tea harvest. According to Tota representative, the Cooperative expects to deploy 30,000 Tota stoves in the next 3 years at tea-producing households in the province.
