At this time, when many hydroelectric plants across the country have opened spillways to ensure reservoir safety, the water level at hydroelectric plants in Ha Tinh is still very low.

Many large hydroelectric plants across the country such as: Tri An ( Dong Nai ); Bac Ha (Lao Cai); Lai Chau; Trung Son (Thanh Hoa); Ban Ve, Chi Khe, Khe Bo (Nghe An)... have opened the spillway gates through the dam after many days of heavy rain causing the water level to rise.

On the contrary, in Ha Tinh, since April, there has been very little rainfall, so the water flow to the reservoirs of hydroelectric plants is insignificant. Hydroelectric plants in the area have had to "cut their coat according to their cloth", making efforts to regulate water sources to generate electricity, contributing to ensuring national energy security.

Currently, the elevation of the reservoir of Ho Ho Hydropower Plant (Huong Khe district) is only 62.1 meters above sea level (5.4 meters lower than the dead water level).

Mr. Nguyen Ba Tuan - Deputy Director of Ho Ho Hydropower Plant said: "Despite facing many difficulties, the unit is still proactive in balancing water resources, flexibly implementing technical solutions to operate within its capacity. The scale of the plant includes 2 generators with a capacity of 7MW/unit. If conditions are favorable, each day the 2 generators will operate and generate 350,000 kWh to the national grid. However, currently the plant can only generate 1 unit for 4-5 hours/day, the electricity output to the grid fluctuates from 25,000 - 30,000 kWh; the remaining unit is temporarily suspended".

The cumulative output of Ho Ho Hydropower Plant to the grid from the beginning of the year to date has reached 13.97 million kWh (the same period in 2022 was 18.5 million kWh). In 2023, the plant's planned electricity output is 37 million kWh, however, in the current difficult conditions, it is very difficult to complete the set target.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Tuan, Ha Tinh has entered the rainy and stormy season. Therefore, in addition to proactive technical solutions such as: conducting experiments, maintaining electrical equipment, transformer stations, supply gates, diesel generators... to ensure good operation during the rainy and stormy season; the factory has developed a natural disaster prevention plan to ensure safety for the factory and downstream areas at all times.

Accordingly, the priority solutions are to inspect construction items (2 dam shoulders, dam access road, factory access road, downstream embankment...) to have timely response plans; organize disaster prevention and search and rescue drills in 2023. In addition, regularly monitor and forecast rainfall, update weather conditions, storm developments to have optimal operation plans...

According to records, in the past 5 years, 2023 was the year that Huong Son Hydropower Plant (Son Kim 1 Commune, Huong Son) encountered the most difficulties in production and business operations due to lack of water. From May to August 2023, the water source at the Cold Water Reservoir decreased severely, at times lower than the dead water level.

According to Mr. Ngo Xuan Manh - Manager of Huong Son Hydropower Plant, "Since August 12, 2023, the water level in the reservoir has improved but not significantly. Up to this point, the elevation of the Nuoc Lanh reservoir has reached 799.78 meters above sea level (1.28 meters higher than the dead water level). With this water level, the plant can only generate 10-14 hours/day, with an electricity output of 380,000 - 420,000 kWh. Meanwhile, 2 generators with a total capacity of 33MW, if generating electricity 24/24 hours, the electricity output to the grid will reach 780,000 kWh/day".

Although the water level in the reservoir of Huong Son Hydropower Plant has improved, it is still not significant.

It is known that this year, Huong Son Hydropower Plant planned to produce 115 million kWh but forecasted that it would be difficult to achieve. Accordingly, from the beginning of the year to August 27, 2023, the unit has produced 42.2 million kWh (21.8 million kWh lower than the same period).

“In the last months of 2023, the plant will continue to closely monitor weather developments, making the most of the water source in the reservoir to generate electricity at maximum capacity to compensate for the output in the recent hot months. In addition, the unit has carried out periodic maintenance and regular maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure safe operation; purchased additional spare machinery equipment such as: control systems, other auxiliary systems... to avoid interruption of operations during the rainy season if equipment failure occurs,” added Mr. Ngo Xuan Manh - Manager of Huong Son Hydropower Plant.
