Since August 13, the Ministry of Education and Training has been conducting virtual filtering of university admission applications for 2024 nationwide. The virtual filtering will take place until 5:00 p.m. on August 17, 6 times.
In parallel with the Ministry of Education and Training, two virtual filtering groups of schools in the North (coordinated by Hanoi University of Science and Technology) and the South (coordinated by Ho Chi Minh City National University) are working together for each group of schools. The general virtual filtering group is working for the schools in the group before the schools upload to the Ministry of Education and Training system to reduce the load on the system.

Before 5:00 p.m. on August 17, schools will enter the admission scores and admission results into the system; review and prepare to announce the first round of admission results according to the general schedule. The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that schools announce the first round of admission results before 5:00 p.m. on August 19.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Thang, Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU, said that the virtual filtering process started on August 14. The system operated smoothly without any problems.
According to the general virtual filtering process, first, the training institution downloads data from the system and organizes the selection. Then, the training institution uploads the first selection results to the system. When the Ministry of Education and Training's selection system releases the first selection results for all training institutions, the institutions download the results. This process is repeated 6 times.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, virtual filtering is the use of admission software to filter out candidates who have passed higher admission wishes to other schools from the expected admission list that the school sends to the system.
Previously, candidates had registered for admission online on the general information portal of the Ministry of Education and Training (new registration based on high school graduation exam scores and re-registration for early admission wishes). The wishes are arranged in order from 1 to the end, in which wish 1 is the highest. The virtual filtering system ensures that each candidate is only admitted to a single wish in one method in the list of eligible registration wishes, according to the principle of prioritizing higher wishes.
According to the plan, by 5 p.m. on August 17, training institutions will enter the admission scores and admission results into the system, review and announce the benchmark scores. In Ho Chi Minh City, many universities said they will announce the benchmark scores immediately after the virtual filtering process nationwide ends.
Schools will soon announce benchmark scores.
After the first virtual screening, many universities reported a sharp increase in the number of candidates registering for their first choice, with some schools doubling the number. The increase in the number of candidates registering for admission, combined with this year's high graduation exam scores compared to last year, has led many schools to predict that this year's admission scores will continue to increase.
Hanoi Medical University, Foreign Trade University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, etc. all predict that the university admission scores based on the high school graduation exam scores this year will also increase. The specific increase depends on each major.
Dr. Pham Thanh Ha, Head of Training Department - University of Transport, predicted that the admission scores for some majors of the university this year may increase by 0.25 - 0.5. According to Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Principal of Hanoi University, the admission scores for majors of the university may increase by about 0.5 - 1 compared to 2023.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoan, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said the school will announce the admission scores on the afternoon of August 17. After that, successful candidates will enroll from August 19. The school plans to extend the admission period by about a week and will not consider additional admissions.
Many other universities such as University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences - VNU-HCM, University of Industry - HCMC, University of Law - HCMC, Gia Dinh University, University of Technology - HCMC, University of Economics - Finance - HCMC, Nha Trang University... are also expected to announce the admission scores from the afternoon of August 17.
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates admitted in the first round must complete the online admission confirmation no later than 5:00 p.m. on August 27. With each school having its own time frame for admission procedures, candidates admitted must pay close attention.
Candidates registered for admission increased by 73,000 students
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2024, more than 733,000 candidates registered for admission, equivalent to 68.5% of the total number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam. This is the year with the highest number of candidates registering for university admission in the past 3 years. In 2023, more than 660,000 candidates registered for admission on the system, equivalent to 65.9% of the total number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam.
