“Big stories for small people” – A journey back to childhood through paintings

On the afternoon of June 21, at Ho Van (Special National Monument of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam), the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam in collaboration with TiredCity opened the painting exhibition "Big stories for small" - an art space that evokes childhood memories through the delicate and emotional perspective of young artists.

The exhibition introduces to the public 50 creative illustrations by 8 young artists from provinces and cities across the country. Each painting is a slice of memory, woven with soft lines and nostalgic colors. Hidden behind each frame are familiar images of childhood: kites filled with wind on summer fields, sweet snacks that once made children happy, or folk games such as clay figurines, papier-mâché masks... All appear simple yet vivid, awakening memories that seem to have fallen asleep in the viewer's soul.

The work "Letter to 9X" is a confession of a young artist.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Lien Huong, Deputy Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, said: Through each stroke and emotional color block, the young artists have told childhood stories that many adults sometimes forget. Each painting is like a door opening to the past, where there are meals cooked by mother, kites in the wind, and laughter from childhood games. With "Big stories for small children", the audience not only admires art, but also returns to the most gentle memories in each person.

Not only for viewing, the exhibition area also expands into a multi-sensory experience space. In the Literature Lake area, audiences can directly participate in childhood games, to “relive” a carefree and innocent time. There, childhood memories are not only seen through paintings, but also aroused by touch, sound and the joy of touching memories.

The public comes to the exhibition "Big Tells Small Stories" not only to admire the paintings, but also to find their childhood memories.

Ms. Bui Ngoc Xuan - Project Manager said that this exhibition is the beginning of an art project that the Organizing Committee has been nurturing since 2023. "We hope that the exhibition will become a bridge to bring young people closer to culture and art, so that they can find a part of their childhood through stories told in pictures.

“Big Stories for Small” is not only an art exhibition, but also a journey back to the inner self of each person - where the child of the past still silently exists, carrying pure memories and a desire to share. The exhibition is like a gentle whisper: no matter how old we are, we always need a moment of silence to listen to our childhood speak.

The exhibition is open from June 21 to July 31, 2025.
