Abundant water in the lake, hydropower is mobilized

VietNamNetVietNamNet11/08/2023

The Department of Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment has just reported to the Minister of Industry and Trade on the operation of hydroelectric reservoirs on August 11.

Specifically, according to the report, the water flow to hydroelectric reservoirs in the Northern region is high and fluctuates slightly; in the North Central, Southeast, and Central Highlands regions, although it has decreased slightly, it is still high.

Therefore, the water levels of hydroelectric reservoirs in the Northern, North Central, Southeast, and Central Highlands regions are all high and increasing; Reservoirs in river basins and small streams in the Northern mountainous region and Central Highlands (Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan , Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Lam Dong) have high water levels, are increasing power generation, using water effectively to avoid excess discharge.

Large hydroelectric reservoirs in the Northern, North Central, Southeast, and Central Highlands regions generate electricity according to the operating and mobilization procedures of the operating agency.

Some lakes have regulated overflow water such as Lai Chau and Trung Son. The remaining large lakes have high water levels and are ready to overflow according to regulations.

The South Central Coast region is raising the water level of reservoirs and generating electricity according to the operating and mobilizing procedures of the operating agency.

The Department of Industrial Safety and Environment forecasts that the hydrological situation and 24-hour water flow to lakes in the Northern region will increase again; the North Central, Central Highlands, and Southeast regions will decrease slowly; and the South Central Coast region will decrease.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (August 11), the North will experience increased thunderstorms and localized heavy rain, temperatures will drop by 1-2 degrees, and the weather will be cool; from Nghe An to Ninh Thuan, temperatures will be above 38 degrees; the Central Highlands and the South will have rain in the evening.

Previously, on August 7, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) said: due to heavy rain and floods in all three regions, the water flow to the reservoirs increased, the National Power System Control Center increased hydropower operations, and some hydropower reservoirs had to overflow.

In a document sent to EVN on August 5, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control requested EVN to proactively operate reservoirs in the Red River basin to respond to heavy rains and floods and ensure effective use of water resources.

Water flow to hydroelectric reservoirs slightly decreased, electricity generation increased, excess discharge avoided On August 9, water flow to hydroelectric reservoirs in the Northern, North Central, and Southeastern regions slightly decreased. Reservoirs are increasing electricity generation, using water effectively, and avoiding excess discharge.
