After more than 3 months of being taken in and raised by officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Post, Border Guard Command, Nghe An Provincial Military Command, Moong Thanh Thao, born in 2016 and Cut Van Thom, born in 2013 (both Kho Mu ethnic group, Bac Ly commune) have changed in all aspects. They have gained weight, are healthier than before, their living style and learning results have made significant progress.
My Ly Border Guard Station (Border Guard Command, Nghe An Provincial Military Command) adopted Moong Thanh Thao and Cut Van Thom. |
Through the conversation with Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Hoa, Deputy Political Commissar of My Ly Border Guard Station, we learned that the two adopted children of the unit have different circumstances but are both very pitiful. Moong Thanh Thao was born into a large family with many siblings, and her parents were often sick, making it difficult for her to keep her children from missing out on daily meals. In the difficult and deprived family conditions, Thao was at risk of malnutrition and had to drop out of school. Meanwhile, Cut Van Thom's parents divorced and left the locality, and since childhood she had to live with her elderly grandfather, sometimes full, sometimes hungry.
Given the special circumstances of the two children, on the occasion of the Border Guard Force's Traditional Day (March 3, 2025), officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Guard Station adopted Thao and Thom and took them to the unit to raise.
At the border station, the children are arranged separate rooms, with officers in charge, taking care of their meals and studies. In addition to school time, depending on their health, Thao and Thom participate in all activities from physical exercise to increasing production. After the initial awkwardness, they are now more mature, like real "child soldiers".
“Here, I am taken care of by my “dads” from meals, sleep, and study guidance. I feel so lucky to be at the border station, in the caring arms of the soldiers,” shared Cut Van Thom.

During our work, the people of Na Ngoi commune, Ky Son district shared with us that they admired Uncle Ho's soldiers, because along with protecting the border, the soldiers in green uniforms always stood side by side to take care of the people's lives. The officers and soldiers of Na Ngoi Border Guard Station are a solid support for the ethnic minorities living in the area. In all circumstances, they always support the people when they need it most.
The unit is nurturing and giving wings to the dreams of adopted children Vu Ba Lau, a 6C student, and Vi Duong Cam, a 8C student (Na Ngoi Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities) to help them achieve their dreams. It is known that both children come from very difficult circumstances and were adopted by soldiers and brought to the unit to raise, of which Vi Duong Cam has been at the border guard station for many years.
When asked, Cam confided: “My family is very poor, my father is seriously ill, my brothers and sisters thought they would never be able to go to school again. Luckily, the soldiers took me to the border station to take care of me and protect me. I promise to study hard so that when I grow up, I can get a stable job and be useful to society.”

According to information from the Border Guard Command, Nghe An Provincial Military Command, as of June 2025, 10 border posts in the border area have adopted 18 disadvantaged students. All of them are being nurtured, educated , and improved in their studies and lives by officers and soldiers of the units.
The specific actions and deeds of the Border Guard are contributing to enhancing the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the hearts of the people, especially ethnic minorities in the stationed areas, thereby promoting the combined strength to protect the peaceful border.
