Malaysia continues to impose tariffs on Chinese and Japanese iron and steel producers; ends tariffs on related exporters from South Korea and Vietnam.
On June 21, the Malaysian Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry (MITI) announced the final decision on reviewing anti-dumping duties on cold-rolled steel or non-alloy steel products with a width of more than 1,300mm imported from China, South Korea, Japan and Vietnam.
According to the announcement, Malaysia continues to impose tariffs on Chinese and Japanese producers of this item; and terminates tariffs on related exporters from South Korea and Vietnam.
Specifically, three Chinese steel producers, Angang Steel Co., Ltd., Maanshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., and Shougang Jingtang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., will be subject to tariffs ranging from 4.82% to 8.74%. Other Chinese iron and steel producers/exporters will be subject to tariffs of 26.38%. All Japanese producers/exporters will be subject to tariffs of 26.39%. These tariffs will be effective for five years from June 23, 2025 to June 22, 2030.
However, MITI lifts the imposition of anti-dumping duties and investigations on imported goods originating or exported from Korea and Vietnam, effective from June 23, 2025.
Previously, on December 24, 2024, based on an application filed by Mycron Steel CRC Sdn. Bhd. on behalf of the domestic steel industry to MITI, Malaysia conducted an administrative review on the expiry of anti-dumping duties on cold-rolled steel coils (CRC) with a width of more than 1,300mm - excluding cold-rolled black steel sheet for tinplate (TMBP), imported goods for the automotive industry and finwalls for transformers - originating or exported from China, South Korea, Japan and Vietnam.
These tariffs, first imposed in 2015 and renewed in 2020, are intended to protect the domestic steel industry.
MITI said the review was conducted under the World Trade Organization's Anti-Dumping Agreement and Malaysia's Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Duties Act 1993./.
