The reigning Premier League champions have long had the "new Messi" in their sights, alongside interest from other teams such as Barca, Chelsea...
As expected, Man City won the race to sign the 18-year-old talent, with the transfer fee believed to be around £12.5 million.
This is the last deal of CEO Omar Berrada before going to MU. According to Athletic , this boss showed no signs of leaving Etihad Stadium before but surprisingly agreed to go to MU, causing surprise.
"The new Messi" Claudio Echeverri signed a contract with Man City until 2028 but similar to his compatriot Julian Alvarez who arrived at the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2022, this player will stay at River Plate until the end of this year.
Echeverri has made six appearances for River Plate's first team since being handed his debut by former Man City player Martin Demichelis. In his first start, the attacking midfielder provided an assist in a 3-1 home win.
The "new Messi" is a key player in the Argentina U17 squad, scoring 13 goals. At the 2023 U17 World Cup, Echeverri, as captain, and his teammates reached the semi-finals of the tournament, contributing 5 goals. Echeverri has also trained with the Argentina team under coach Lionel Scolani.
