Tonali was named again in the investigation into illegal betting in Italy.

Tonali has emerged as a key player in the growing investigation into illegal betting in Italy, but the Newcastle United midfielder is unlikely to face any further suspension, according to Mail Sport .

Currently, the latest details of the case revolve around the use of illegal betting platforms. The investigation into this group of players lasted from December 2021 to October 2023.

Corriere della Sera revealed that through the process of questioning and analyzing the phone data of Tonali and Nicolo Fagioli, Milan prosecutors identified 12 other players, including many familiar faces who have played or are playing in Serie A, involved in the illegal betting ring.

The list includes a series of stars such as Weston McKennie, Mattia Perin, Leandro Paredes, Nicolo Zaniolo, Alessandro Florenzi and Angel di Maria. However, there is no sign that this group of players is related to football betting.

If they are involved in betting on football matches, the group of players will receive serious penalties. In the case of simply using an illegal betting platform (not licensed in Italy), the highest administrative fine is 250 euros.

However, it is not ruled out that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) will open its own investigation from a sports disciplinary perspective. This is the move that resulted in Tonali and Fagioli receiving long-term bans from competition.

Tonali was banned for 10 months in 2023 for betting, including betting on Newcastle matches. His ban ended at the end of August, and he has since made 45 appearances for Newcastle and Italy.

Young Italian star sent off for stepping on opponent Sandro Tonali paid the price for violent behavior when he received a red card in Italy's 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic at the U21 EURO on March 25.
