First half of 2025: Binh Thuan agricultural production is quite favorable

According to the assessment of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, since the beginning of the year, thanks to favorable weather and proactive irrigation, crop production in many localities has been effective. Across the fields, after the end of the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop with good results, farmers continued to sow the summer-autumn crop to ensure the area and time as planned.

One of the advantages of agricultural production in the first half of 2025 is that the current water reserves in irrigation systems and reservoirs provide relatively sufficient water for annual crop production. Thanks to that, the sowing time and the winter-spring crop area are guaranteed according to plan.

Of which, the area for planting short-term crops is estimated to exceed the plan by 5.1% (51,920 ha/49,410 ha), the winter-spring crop output is estimated at 304,310 tons, an increase of 3.5% over the same period last year. For example, in the key rice area of Tanh Linh district, since the beginning of the year, the water source for production has been quite favorable, thanks to which the total planting area in the crop is nearly 11,000 hectares, exceeding the set plan. The total winter-spring crop output of the district is estimated at 75,084 tons, an increase of 348 tons over the same period. Mr. Le Chi Dung - a rice farmer in Bac Ruong commune, Tanh Linh district shared: This year, thanks to the sufficient irrigation water source, plus the favorable weather, farmers have achieved high productivity and quality. In addition, to improve crop productivity, farmers are constantly learning and applying high-quality rice varieties, reducing the amount of seeds sown, etc.

Notably, immediately after the end of the winter-spring crop, the provincial agricultural sector focused on developing a plan and implementing the production of the 2025 summer-autumn crop. Accordingly, the planting season will end in mid-June 2025. Depending on water resources and forecasts of brown planthopper migration, localities will deploy concentrated, simultaneous planting, suitable for each area and each field. For areas that are not fully proactive in irrigation water sources, depending on the local water resources and weather developments, localities will arrange a specific crop schedule for each area. As for flower crops, short-term industrial crops and newly planted perennial crops, planting will begin at the beginning of the rainy season, when the soil is sufficiently moist. According to the schedule, by mid-May 2025, localities have planted over 6,000 hectares of rice and 5 hectares of corn in the summer-autumn crop. In parallel with the production of short-term crops, the provincial agricultural sector is focusing on intensive investment, improving the productivity and quality of the province's advantageous crops. Typically, in the first half of the year, the output of perennial crops such as dragon fruit is estimated at 346,000 tons, up 6.5% over the same period; rubber is estimated at 16,880 tons, up 8.9%; cashew nuts are 12,900 tons... The sector is also actively coordinating with localities to promote production and inspect, certify dragon fruit to meet VietGAP standards, with an area of 9,243 hectares certified.

The leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment assessed that during the production process, pests and diseases on crops appeared and caused widespread damage, but with a low rate of damage, not much affecting productivity. In particular, on rice plants, the area infected with rice blast disease was over 1,000 hectares, leaf blight disease was 983 hectares, stem borer was 1,184 hectares. On dragon fruit plants, the area infected with brown spot disease was 1,840 hectares, yellow stem disease was 641 hectares... Thanks to the regular forecasting of pests and diseases, timely recommendations to people on effective prevention measures, pests on crops were well controlled, no epidemics occurred that required epidemic declaration.

According to the plan in the remaining months of 2025, the provincial agricultural sector will focus on directing the production of the summer-autumn and winter-spring crops to achieve results, ensuring the completion of the target of 876,700 tons of food. At the same time, promote the socialization of rice varieties, increase the rate of use of certified rice varieties; effectively use rice land, flexibly convert between food crops and other crops. Continue to encourage the development of green, clean, organic agriculture, apply high technology, and adapt to climate change. Promote the production, inspection, and certification of dragon fruit that meets VietGAP standards. Regularly inspect and control the use of stimulants and pesticides on dragon fruit and vegetables.
