According to a VNA correspondent in North Africa, on April 9, the Moroccan National Social Security Fund (CNSS) announced that it had opened an investigation into a cyber attack on the fund, which is believed to have leaked personal data of nearly 2 million employees from thousands of domestic companies.
The attack occurred on the evening of April 8. According to local media, an Algerian hacker group calling itself "Jabaroot DZ" admitted to attacking CNSS on the social network Telegram, and said it had published a file containing personal data - including ID numbers, phone numbers and banking information of 1,996,026 employees of nearly 500,000 companies.
Initial investigations by the CNSS into some of the leaked documents found that the published data was often misleading, inaccurate or garbled.
However, CNSS confirmed that the attacks had caused data leaks and the extent of the damage was still being assessed.
The attack has sparked a backlash on social media, with some Internet users questioning the reliability of the CNSS's digital security system.
The Jabaroot DZ group claimed to have carried out the attack in retaliation for hostile actions by Moroccan hackers./.
