Five years ago, Nguyen Quynh Huong (now 23 years old, Can Tho ) went to the city to work. Renting a room was difficult, so she always tried to earn an income to take care of herself and her family.

The job was quite unstable, forcing Huong to quit many times and find positions at other companies. That time, having just quit her job and feeling bored, Huong went online to find friends to chat with for fun.

“Suddenly, I saw a strange man join me as a friend and wanted to get to know me, so I tried to talk to him to relax. After a few conversations, he texted me to ask me out and tried to ‘seduce’ me.

But after meeting her in person, he saw that she was quite pretty and serious, so he had a different view. We officially became friends from then on," Huong said.

Huong and Linh met online and became husband and wife.

After knowing each other for a while, Huong and her boyfriend named Tran Duy Linh (23 years old) developed feelings for each other and officially started dating. After 3 months of dating, Linh suggested taking Huong to her hometown of Soc Trang to meet her parents.

Knowing Huong's rental situation, Linh's parents were very comfortable and happily welcomed their future daughter-in-law and invited her to stay at their house.

As their relationship grew stronger, Linh suggested that Huong move back to her house to live while she was still looking for a job to save on rent. Huong agreed to Linh's proposal.

“When I was at my boyfriend’s house, I was really surprised because his mother treated me very well. His mother considered me as her own child, so I felt like I wanted to be closer to Linh’s family,” Huong said.

After 5 months at her boyfriend's house, Huong and Linh both found jobs. They moved to Can Tho city to rent a place to work.

Three months later, Huong was pregnant. Although they had not known each other for long, Huong believed Linh was the best choice for her. She believed he would be the one to bring happiness to both mother and child.

Seeing that their love was ripe, and Huong was pregnant, Linh's family decided to hold a wedding for their children. Linh and Huong's wedding took place with the family's blessing.

Huong said her father was quite difficult and was not very happy with his daughter getting pregnant first. But after a while of being persuaded by her children, he happily accepted.

On her wedding day, Huong choked up because her mother-in-law cared for her, worried about her, and gave her the warm feeling of a blood relative.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nang, Huong's mother-in-law, is nearly 60 years old, has a youthful style of dress, and a carefree personality. Having no daughter, Mrs. Nang loves her daughter-in-law very much and also treats her daughter-in-law as her own daughter.

“On Tet 2021, my mother-in-law saw me crying because I missed home and encouraged me to go back to my hometown. I listened to her and asked my husband to take me back.

My mother never forbade me from going to my maternal grandparents' house because to her, every hometown is her hometown. She always taught her children to behave well and consider both parents as family members," Huong said.

Living with her husband's family, Huong did not feel afraid or have to be reserved. She considered her husband's family as her own family, doing everything in the most natural way.

Later, Huong was even more grateful for her mother-in-law's kindness when she fell and broke her leg because of her: "That time, I was only 3 months pregnant and had a stomachache. When my mother heard the news, she immediately rode her electric bike home from work to look after the baby so my father could take me to the doctor. On the way, she unfortunately fell and broke her leg."

So when her second child was born, Huong returned to her mother's house. During that time, her mother-in-law missed her daughter-in-law and her grandchildren and kept calling to ask how they were.

When she recovered, she welcomed Huong and her mother back. Every day, Mrs. Nang cooked and prepared everything for the whole family. Even when her grandchildren grew up, her mother-in-law still took care of all the cooking.

“As long as I said I was hungry or craving something, my mother-in-law would cook it for me. One time, when the whole family had gone to bed, I said I was hungry, and my mother-in-law got up to cook noodles for me.

“I just need to say that I have pain somewhere and my mother-in-law will be extremely worried and will quickly send her son to buy medicine. Her affection makes me extremely touched,” Huong said.

Knowing that her mother had no daughter, she loved her daughter-in-law very much, but sometimes Huong still made her mother sad.

“Once, out of anger, I ‘blocked’ my mother on TikTok. She was so upset that she covered her face and cried,” Huong said. Seeing her mother like that, she encouraged her and apologized.

Huong said that many of the clothes she wears are handmade by her mother. Sometimes when she finds beautiful clothes online, her mother-in-law orders them for her daughter-in-law.

Huong is always grateful for the fate that gave her a kind husband's family who loves her unconditionally.
