Over the period of implementing the Cattle Development Project in the province, the cattle herd in the province has increased in quantity and quality, with an average annual increase of 1.11 - 2%. Specifically, the number of cattle in the province is currently more than 54,000, of which there are more than 48,357 beef cattle and more than 5,718 dairy cattle; the annual beef cattle output supplied to the market is more than 2,200 tons, and the fresh cow milk output supplied to milk processing companies is more than 13,860 tons. Accordingly, to support households in effectively implementing the project, the province has established the Cattle Development Project Management Board to carry out propaganda activities, technical training, and a series of other supports implemented by the project. In 2024 alone, the Project Management Board distributed nearly 2,500 propaganda documents, technical instructions on beef and dairy cattle farming and capacity building for cattle farming cooperatives and groups in the province.

In addition, to increase the rate of female cows, relevant agencies have organized the sowing of more than 11,100 doses of artificial bull semen for more than 48,300 cows, the rate of cows conceiving after insemination is more than 71%; supported more than 3,000 doses of artificial bull semen, sown for more than 1,600 cows in localities in the province. Improved insemination to breed local cows with large-sized, meaty cows such as Zebu and Red Sindhi; supported more than 8,000 doses of high-yield beef cow semen sown for more than 4,000 beef cows, creating Zebu crossbred cows weighing more than 250kg of crossbred beef cows, increasing the weight of beef cows when sold. Ear clipping of 5,000 breeding cows and heifers over 12 months old for breed management; supported 5,000 sets of ear tags, 940 beef cattle management books for households.
Mr. Danh Thol, Dai Tam commune, My Xuyen district confided: "I have been raising beef cattle for more than 15 years. Since I joined the Cattle Development Project, I have been instructed by technical staff on how to take care of the cattle, feed them suitable grasses and always supported with grass seeds to grow for the cattle to eat, and instructed on how to compost straw to create a food source for the cattle when grass is scarce in the dry season. In addition, the project also supports the construction of manure pits and biogas pits, both to avoid pollution of the surrounding environment and to take advantage of gas as fuel, reducing monthly fuel costs for family activities. Thanks to that, my family's cattle raising has been favorable, and the income from selling beef cattle is more than 100 million VND/year."
In order for the project's cows to develop well, have stable reproductive health, and produce a stable amount of fresh cow milk, the Project Management Board has supported hundreds of kilograms of lemongrass seeds planted in cattle raising areas. Up to now, the pasture area is 2,100 hectares, providing 60% of the amount of green roughage for the cows; supporting corn seeds for households to grow corn to sell to increase income and utilize corn as feed for cows, an area of 20 hectares. Supporting the construction of 100 models for solid waste treatment from cattle raising at households to minimize environmental pollution; supporting the construction of 5 VietGAP cattle raising models. After implementing the model, all cattle raising households were certified to meet VietGAP standards for beef cattle raising. Supporting households participating in the project to fatten more than 350 beef cattle, to increase the weight and quality of beef cattle, helping households increase their income after selling cattle.

For dairy cows, the Project Management Board has organized and maintained 42 advanced dairy cow farming models, along with supporting households to implement models of repairing barns, milking machines, grass choppers, and cow manure pits; supporting solutions to improve feed efficiency, improve grass quality, and improve nutrition for cows; thereby improving physical condition and increasing reproductive efficiency and milk exploitation. To protect the health of dairy cows, the Project Management Board also coordinates with livestock and veterinary stations in localities in the project area to guide households to strictly control some infectious diseases in cows such as: lumpy skin disease, foot and mouth disease, septicemia, etc.
Comrade Dao Van Bay - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and Deputy Director of the Soc Trang Province Cattle Breeding Development Project Management Board said that the project's next goal is to develop the province's beef cattle herd to 55,000 heads; meat output of more than 3,000 tons/year, creating jobs for 10,000 workers. The number of dairy cows is 7,000 heads, fresh milk output of 15,000 tons/year, creating jobs for 5,000 workers. To achieve the above goal, the Project Management Board will continue to improve and enhance the productivity and quality of beef and dairy cattle breeds by artificial insemination from imported cow semen. Convert the farming method from 4 - 5 heads/household to 5 - 6 heads/household, encourage the development of cattle farming in the direction of family farms and ranches. Continue to improve the human resources for artificial insemination, especially linking state management to livestock farming. Improve the quality of green feed sources, make good use of industrial and agricultural by-products and apply scientific and technological advances, mechanization and automation in livestock farming. Strengthen the linkage of production and consumption chains in cattle farming. Replicating effective, bio-safe cattle farming models, ensuring disease safety; coordinating with banks to create conditions for farmers to access loans to invest in increasing herds, moving towards cattle farming...
