Ms. Huong's family had an 18-day trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi.

After a nearly 20-day car trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Ms. Pham Huong (born in 1992, Hanoi) wrote an article sharing her experience packing for a family of 4.

The post quickly received hundreds of interactions. Many people rated this little tip as simple, easy to do but effective.

Specifically, instead of preparing 4 bulky suitcases of various sizes like before, Ms. Huong switched to packing the clothes of the family of 4 members (father, mother, 5-year-old child, 11-month-old child) into zip bags, then placed them in a clear plastic box - the box used to store toys for the children.

"Both families' parents live in the countryside, so my husband and I often take our children to visit their grandparents. At that time, I didn't know how to pack properly, so I remembered this and forgot that, which was very inconvenient. In 2020, when I took my older friend on a trip to Ho Chi Minh City - Ca Mau, every time I looked for something, I had to rummage through everything and then struggle to put it back in," Ms. Huong recalled.

Currently, Ms. Huong has changed her habit of preparing things for her family.

Like many other women, when traveling, Ms. Huong will bring many different outfits to make an impressive check-in. She decided to spend a day trying on clothes, considering what conditions the outfit is suitable for, whether it fits, whether it is convenient to move around, and how to coordinate it with accessories.

Each selected set of clothes and accessories will be neatly packed together, placed in a zip bag. She usually uses a 40 x 28cm bag to pack things for her parents, and a 28 x 20cm bag to pack things for her children.

Ms. Huong replaced suitcases with square plastic boxes.

For her husband's clothes, Ms. Huong packed each bag with 7-8 sets of clothes including T-shirts, shorts, and underwear, all rolled up neatly. For her children's clothes, she did the same, each bag could hold 4 sets of clothes for the older children and 6 sets of clothes for the younger children. In total, the 3 of them only needed 6 zip bags.

In addition, Ms. Huong prepared a large zip bag for the whole family's swimsuits; two small bags for personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel) or baby care items (nail clippers, cotton swabs, saline, essential oils, thermometer). She used a marker to write the names on the bags so that her husband could easily recognize them.

All zip bags are neatly arranged in a clear plastic box, making them easy to identify and find. Another plastic box is used by the family to store toys and other necessary items for the children.

"When I arrive at the hotel, I take a bag/basket to pick up enough clothes for each day for my family, and also take a bag to hold toiletries and towels. I don't need to bring a box or pull a suitcase like before," she said.

The clothes will be kept dry by the family, put in bags, collected, and taken to the dry cleaners every 2-3 days while traveling. When finished washing, Ms. Huong puts the clothes back in the bag as before.

On the recent trip, Ms. Huong’s family parked their car in Ho Chi Minh City, then drove from Ho Chi Minh City to Binh Phuoc, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan, along the coastal road back to Hanoi. During the days on the coastal road, the couple continuously let their children play in the sand, swim in the sea, a plastic box was used specifically for storing swimsuits and toys.

"Putting things in this box doesn't mean you don't have to worry about water or sand sticking to your car or other bags. It's very convenient," said Ms. Huong.

Taking her child on a long trip, Ms. Huong's family also "pocketed" a few small tips to ensure health such as: Drinking bottled water, bringing ginger tea bags to avoid a cold stomach when eating seafood for a long time, warming the child's hands and feet when playing at the beach for a long time...

Ms. Huong makes snacks such as fruit yogurt cakes and vegetable cakes and stores them in boxes and jars for her children to snack on in the car, ensuring fiber intake during long travel days.
