According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night and today (September 29), in the mountainous areas of the North, there were places with heavy to very heavy rain, with rainfall from 7:00 p.m. last night to 3:00 p.m. in some places over 50mm, such as: Dong Tam (Ha Giang) 376.8mm, Nhan Mon ( Bac Kan ) 50.2mm, Linh Phong (Thai Nguyen) 62.2mm,...

It is forecasted that from this evening to tomorrow night (September 30), in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa , there will be moderate rain, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall in the mountainous and midland areas of the North from 50-120mm, locally over 200mm.

During this time, other places in the North and Thanh Hoa will have rainfall from 30-80mm, locally over 150mm. Warning of the risk of local heavy rain (>120mm/6 hours). From October 1, heavy rain will decrease rapidly in the North and Thanh Hoa.

Meteorological experts especially note that heavy rain and localized heavy rain of high intensity can cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Huy, an expert on climate change and natural disaster warning, said that on September 29-30 and the morning of October 1, there will be heavy rain in the northern mountainous provinces and the northern midlands.

According to Dr. Huy, the flood caused by the circulation of storm No. 3 Yagi caused landslides, flash floods and severe flooding in the mountainous and midland provinces of the North. That multi-natural disaster not only caused consequences at that time but also made the soil and rock structure on the hills, the positive and negative slopes on the roads become heavy and fragmented. Therefore, another heavy rain can easily trigger new landslides.

“This rain is not large in total rainfall over a large area, but it is heavy rain in random clusters, so people must be extremely cautious. If the villages have hills nearby, they should send people to assess whether there are any cracks on the hills. If there are, they need to report to the authorities for response plans. If necessary, people and property should be moved to a safe place as soon as possible,” Dr. Huy warned.

Also according to Dr. Huy, after this rain, it is forecasted that from October 2-8, the weather will be sunny and beautiful in the mountainous provinces, the Northern midlands and the Northern Delta.

Regarding the upcoming cold air mass, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that currently (September 29), in the North, a part of cold air is moving south.

It is forecasted that on land around early morning and on October 1, this cold air mass will affect the Northeast region, then most of the Northwest region, North Central region and some places in Central Central region. The wind will change to Northeast level 3 inland, level 4-5 in coastal areas.

During this cold spell, the weather in the North and North Central regions will be cool; cold at night and early morning, especially in the mountainous areas of the North. The lowest temperature in the North and Thanh Hoa is generally from 19-22 degrees, in mountainous areas 17-19 degrees, in high mountainous areas below 16 degrees in some places; in Nghe An - Ha Tinh, the lowest temperature is from 20-23 degrees.

Weather at sea from noon on October 1, in the Gulf of Tonkin, the Northeast wind gradually increases to level 6, gusting to level 7-8; rough sea; waves from 1.5-2.5m high.
