On the afternoon of May 22, with the majority of delegates in agreement, the National Assembly passed a resolution to dismiss the XV National Assembly delegate from his duties and to remove Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong from his position as Chairman of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee.
On May 15, at the mid-term conference, the Party Central Committee voted and agreed to let Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee, cease to hold the position of member of the 13th Party Central Committee.
A day later, Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong submitted a request to resign from his duties as a National Assembly delegate and from positions elected by the National Assembly.
Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong was born in 1967, from Binh Duong. He has a Master's degree in Economic Management and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Finance.
Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong was the former Secretary of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee for two terms 2015-2020 and 2020-2025. At the 23rd session, the Central Inspection Committee determined that the Party Executive Committee of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee violated the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations; lacked responsibility, loosened leadership and direction, allowing the Provincial People's Committee and many organizations and individuals to violate Party regulations and State laws in implementing a number of projects and equitization work. There were cadres and party members who degraded in political ideology, ethics and lifestyle, violated regulations on what party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example, and were criminally prosecuted.
The Central Inspection Commission determined that the responsibility for the above violations and shortcomings belongs to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, the Party Committee of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee and many former leaders of Dong Nai Province, including Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong. The Party Committee of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee for the 2011-2016 and 2016-2021 terms, along with a number of individuals, were warned by the Central Inspection Commission.
At the end of March, the Politburo warned the Standing Committee of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee for the two terms 2010-2015 and 2015-2020 for "violations causing serious consequences, difficult to overcome damage and risk of large loss of state budget, causing outrage in society, reducing the prestige of local Party committees and authorities".
