In addition, this evening and tonight, in Thanh Hoa, Northern Nghe An, Central Highlands, and Southern regions, there will be showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 20-40mm, in some places over 80mm.

The meteorological agency forecasts that heavy rain in the North and Central Central regions is likely to last until around November 2.

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Huy (Huy Nguyen), an expert on climate change and natural disaster warning, also said that the northeast monsoon has begun to blow strongly along the coast, cold air is coming with large, dense clouds. The North and Central Central regions will have intermittent heavy rain from tonight and from October 30 to November 2.

Previously, Dr. Huy also commented that from October 28 to November 2, there may be relatively heavy rain, "rolling" from the North to the Central region.

Specifically, on October 28-29, heavy rain occurred in the northern mountainous region and the Northern Delta; on October 30-31, rain flooded Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue. From October 31 to November 2, heavy rain occurred in the areas of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang.

In addition, it is forecasted that from November 1-3, the Central Highlands and the South will continue to have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, with some areas having moderate to heavy rain.

In the monthly climate forecast bulletin from October 21 to November 20, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that moderate and heavy rains are likely to continue, concentrated in the Central region. The Central Highlands and the South will still have many days of showers and thunderstorms, including some areas with moderate and heavy rain.

Flood and landslide prevention

Mr. Phung Tien Kien, Deputy Head of Hydrological Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, warned that from tomorrow (October 30) to November 3, there is a possibility of a flood on rivers from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, with flood amplitudes rising from 3-7m in the upper reaches of rivers and from 1-3m in the lower reaches.

During this flood, the peak water level on rivers is at alert level 1 - alert level 2, some rivers are above alert level 2, especially rivers in Thua Thien Hue are at alert level 2 and above alert level 2.

At the same time, soil moisture models show that some areas from Nghe An to Quang Ngai provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached saturation. Therefore, there is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, localized flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas in nearly 50 districts and towns of these provinces.
