The turning point for the French midfielder to return to playing football. |
Pogba is facing the opportunity to return to professional competition after a long period of testing. According to ESPN , Pogba was called up to AS Monaco's squad for the match against Stade Rennais in round 13 of Ligue 1 in the early morning of November 23.
Monaco's coaching staff's plan was to bring Pogba on late in the game, marking his return after exactly 26 months without playing a match.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined Monaco on a free transfer in the summer of 2025 on a two-year contract, after terminating his contract with Juventus in November 2024. However, his return journey has not been smooth.
Five months after joining AS Monaco, Pogba has yet to play for the French club. Monaco's board have stressed that Pogba needs time. The midfielder needs to improve his fitness before he can return to top-level football.
A succession of injuries, including a muscle injury last month and an ankle sprain two weeks ago, has repeatedly seen him miss his Monaco debut.
Coach Sebastien Pocognoli expressed optimism, but caution about Pogba: "We will evaluate him based on what he brings on the pitch. Last time I thought he would play, but it didn't work out. Now Paul is focused and determined, that's the most important thing."
Obviously, the match in round 13 of Ligue 1 in the early morning of November 23 could be a big turning point for the French midfielder.
