To compensate for the damage in agricultural production caused by storms and floods, this winter crop, Hung Ha district (Thai Binh) expanded the planting area of cold-loving winter crops with advantages and high economic value.
These days, in the fields of Xuan La village, Doc Lap commune (Hung Ha district, Thai Binh ), the atmosphere of planting cold-loving winter crops is taking place urgently. Mr. Nguyen Van Hien shared: This year I planted 5 sao of potatoes. The weather is favorable, the land is easy to work, the potato varieties are supported by the government to ensure quality, I have finished planting the entire area. In addition, this winter crop, I also planted more than 14 sao of Achyranthes bidentata, hoping that the weather will support the plants to grow and develop well, making up for the damage caused by rain and floods.
As a locality with a tradition of growing winter crops, always leading the district in the area of growing cold-loving potatoes, this winter season, Doc Lap commune strives to grow nearly 100 hectares of cold-loving winter crops (more than 40 hectares of potatoes, nearly 55 hectares of cabbage, cauliflower, kohlrabi...). Up to this point, the commune's Agricultural Service Cooperative has received more than 100 kg of various vegetable seeds and more than 1.6 tons of potatoes supported by the province and district for farmers.
Farmers in Hong Minh commune (Hung Ha, Thai Binh) apply machinery to production to improve crop quality.
Mr. Nguyen The Thong, Director of the Cooperative, said: We are mobilizing human resources and equipment to prepare the land and plant winter crops according to the right time frame. Up to now, farmers in the commune have planted 75 hectares of cold-loving winter crops.
To achieve the set goal, we advise the Commune People's Committee to support farmers with 50% of the land preparation costs; the Cooperative supports 100% of the costs of irrigation, drainage, dredging irrigation in the field, and catching rats in the winter crop growing area; organize training courses and instruct farmers on techniques for caring for, preventing, and controlling pests and diseases for crops; propagate and mobilize households to borrow or rent fields to expand the area of cold-loving winter crops. In addition, the Cooperative continues to connect with a number of agents and businesses to consume agricultural products for farmers.
Coming to Hong Minh commune these days, on the alluvial fields along the river, farmers are focusing on planting carrots and various vegetables.
Mr. Pham Manh Tuong, Tho My village said: This year, my family planted 50 acres, mainly carrots. To ensure planting within the crop time frame, we mobilized 4 plows, hired 1 excavator and 30 workers to speed up the progress. Up to now, I have planted 50% of the area, striving to complete the entire area by October 30. In general, growing carrots gives high yield, no need to worry about product output, after deducting costs, each crop my family earns more than 2 million VND/sao, that is why I have been attached to carrots for nearly 10 years now.
According to the people of Hong Minh commune, the recent rain and flood have affected the entire crop area on the alluvial land; therefore, to compensate for the damage, people continue to expand the planting area, mainly carrots. Currently, the whole commune has planted 160 hectares of winter crops, of which 60 hectares are carrots, an increase of 20 hectares compared to the winter crop in 2023; 50 hectares are kohlrabi and cabbage, the rest are beans and peas of all kinds.
This winter crop, farmers in Doc Lap commune (Hung Ha) planted more than 40 hectares of potatoes.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Director of the Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative, said: We guide farmers to focus on mobilizing human resources and means to quickly complete the planting of cold-loving winter crops; to form stable concentrated commodity production areas according to safe production processes. At the same time, we need to do a good job of regulating water reasonably to create favorable conditions for farmers to care for and protect winter crops; to develop product promotion plans, and to proactively link and contract with units that consume agricultural products for farmers.
Determining that winter crop production will face many difficulties due to complicated weather conditions; high prices of agricultural production materials; to achieve a comprehensive victory in winter crop production, Hung Ha has organized the provision of more than 1,600 kg of vegetable seeds, 3,500 kg of corn, and 45 tons of potatoes. Up to now, the whole district has planted 4,550 hectares, of which melons and squash are 850 hectares; corn is 1,650 hectares; soybeans are 250 hectares; vegetables are 1,350 hectares; sweet potatoes are 450 hectares.
Mr. Pham Van Binh, Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: We continue to propagate and mobilize people to take advantage of favorable weather to mobilize maximum human resources and means to speed up progress, maximize the area of cold-loving winter crops, strive to achieve and exceed the set plan; Agricultural Service Cooperatives prepare to provide adequate seeds and materials to ensure the best quantity and quality for people to plant.
In addition, we assign technical staff to coordinate with training facilities, provide guidance on planting techniques, care, pest prevention and control; proactively develop plans for agricultural product consumption for farmers, create trust and momentum in winter crop production for people to promote and replicate in the following years.
