Remember what Apple included in the box with the first-generation iPhone? Of course, the groundbreaking iPhone itself. But there were a few other cool accessories in the box, too. Users were given iPhone stereo headphones, which let them easily control calls, music, and video playback with a button on the headphones. One of the iconic accessories was the 30-pin USB-A cable, along with a charger and a dock — yes, the OG iPhone came with its own dock. Users also got an Apple sticker and a cleaning cloth to care for the phone’s screen.
However, things started to change when Apple launched the iPhone 12 in 2020. According to the prediction of famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International, Apple will remove EarPods and chargers from iPhone boxes. It was a bold move, but according to calculations, this will save Apple $ 6.5 billion by March 2022. And it seems that Apple is not stopping there. Even though it was just a joke, imagine if Apple decided to no longer put the iPhone in its box? Surely, that would save a huge amount of money.
What's inside the iPhone 16 series box?
There’s not much left for Apple to remove from iPhone boxes these days. When it launched the M4-powered iPad Pro and M2-powered iPad Air earlier this year, the boxes no longer included the Apple sticker—an item that has been a hallmark of new Apple devices since the iPhone debuted in 2007. There’s been speculation that Apple will stop including stickers in future iPhone boxes.
Recently, internal information from Apple Stores was revealed by 9to5Mac, confirming that iPhone stickers have also "disappeared" from the box, just like EarPods and chargers before. However, there is still good news: Apple is still willing to provide stickers if customers request them. But most likely, with the iPhone 16 models and beyond, buyers will no longer care much about the lack of stickers.
Poll on the "X" platform.
In May, analyst John Gruber conducted a poll on the “X” (formerly Twitter) platform to see what the public thought about Apple stopping providing stickers. The results showed that 62.5% of respondents agreed that it was time to stop wasting materials to produce stickers, while 37.5% disagreed. Indeed, when you’ve spent around $800-1,200 on a new phone, a small sticker worth only a few cents probably doesn’t matter much. Instead, many users, like Gruber’s poll, would rather Apple go back to including a charger in the box than stickers that have little value.
