Hicham Boudaoui becomes the next name pursued by MU. |
Manchester United sent a scout to the Friends Arena in Solna for the international friendly between Sweden and Algeria last week to watch Hicham Boudaoui. The player is expected to leave Ligue 1 this summer.
Despite only playing for an hour and leaving the pitch with his team 4-0 down, the 25-year-old Algerian showed why experts in France believe he is ready for the rigours of the Premier League.
The 25-year-old won all the duels and looked composed in Algeria's half. He also showed great passing ability. Boudaoui even nearly scored with a decisive shot from outside the area that went just wide of the post.
Boudaoui has had an excellent season, becoming one of the best defensive midfielders in Ligue 1. According to data from Datascout , he ranks first in sprint speed, fourth in acceleration and sixth in high-intensity running distance.
Manager Ruben Amorim is keen to add physical players and Boudaoui is seen as a suitable option. United were unable to sign the Nice player last summer because both clubs were in the Europa League.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has agreed not to transfer players between the two clubs until September 2025 to meet UEFA's multi-club ownership requirements, meaning the Boudaoui deal can only be completed on the final day of the summer transfer window, with the Premier League deadline at 7pm on 1 September.
Nice could demand £20m for the midfielder. Manchester United have already spent £62.5m on Matheus Cunha and may have to sell more players to raise money for their next big transfer.
