Prolonged heavy rain, risk of 0.5 - 2.5m deep flooding in many low-lying areas

Over the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains have occurred throughout Khanh Hoa province, with some places reaching exceptionally heavy levels, causing many areas to be saturated with soil moisture of over 80%. The Khanh Hoa Provincial Hydrometeorological Station (KTTV) warned that the risk of flooding, flash floods and landslides will continue to increase in the coming hours.

Extremely heavy rain, many areas exceed soil saturation threshold

According to Khanh Hoa Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the amount of rain measured from 7:00 p.m. on November 18 to 7:00 p.m. on November 19 reached very high levels at many stations such as Khanh Trung: 361.3mm; Son Thai: 355.3mm; Khanh Binh: 304.4mm; Van Binh: 370.4mm.

Widespread heavy rain has caused many areas to reach 80% soil moisture saturation, increasing the risk of flooding, flash floods and landslides in the next 6 hours, especially in mountainous areas, along rivers and streams. In particular, very high risk areas: Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, North Nha Trang, Deo Ca, Deo Khanh Le, Vinh Hy; warning areas: Van Ninh, Ninh Hoa, Cam Lam, Cam Ranh, Nha Trang suburbs; low-lying areas, prone to flooding but low risk of landslides, concentrated in Dien Khanh, Cam Ranh, Ninh Hoa and along rivers.

Risk of flooding 0.5 - 2.5m deep

Localities at particular risk of flooding include: Suoi Dau, Suoi Hiep, Dien Khanh, Dien Dien, Dien Lac, Nha Trang, Tay Nha Trang, Bac Nha Trang, Cam Ranh; wards and communes of Ninh Hoa, Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, and many low-lying areas along rivers and streams.

Flooding time is concentrated on November 19. Forecasted flood depth: 0.5m - 2.5m. Disaster risk level: Level 2 - 3.

The Hydrometeorological Station warned that flooding could cause local disruption, affect traffic, threaten the safety of people and property, and impact production and people's lives. The Hydrometeorological Station of Khanh Hoa province advised localities and people to closely monitor the next forecast bulletins and proactively take preventive measures, especially in areas with steep slopes, riverside areas, and low-lying areas.

Flood response recommendations:

. Limit movement through overflow roads, small streams, and steep passes during heavy rain.
Do not attempt to cross deep, fast-flowing water to avoid accidents and landslides.
. Proactively reinforce houses, raise furniture, and prepare essential supplies.
. Continuously monitor weather reports from the KTTV Station and local authorities.
. Immediately contact authorities when detecting risks of landslides or flash floods.
