Faced with an emergency situation where many pregnant women went into labor and their water broke, Phu Yen General Hospital, a unit without an Obstetrics and Pediatrics department, also assisted in receiving the deliveries.

In many hospitals, despite having prepared disaster response plans and having generators and backup water sources, many unexpected incidents still arise.
Units must act quickly to maintain treatment for hospitalized patients and receive new patients.
During the floods or in the middle of storm number 13 before, the lights in the departments were still on, the medical team was still on duty, making every effort to save the lives of the patients.
Doctor Huynh Tuy Vien, Emergency Department, Phu Yen General Hospital, said: “Every day, we have to receive many cases of slipping and falling due to slippery roads, frostbite due to being in flood water for a long time; there are even patients with myocardial infarction and stroke due to the extremely cold weather. There are cases brought by the rescue team, without relatives, and without paying hospital fees, but the hospital still accepts and treats them immediately. For frostbite cases, we use a fan to warm them up first and then continue with professional treatment.”

At the same time, we flexibly received obstetric and pediatric patients because the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital was deeply flooded. "Our point of view is to receive and treat all patients, in all circumstances, to ensure the patient's life" - Dr. Hoa affirmed.
During the flood season, Phu Yen General Hospital maintained treatment for more than 930 inpatients, and basically provided meals for on-duty staff and patients while many families were isolated and unable to provide food for their relatives.
