Prolonged heavy rains and floods have caused deep flooding and landslides at hundreds of locations on the National Highway system, with 18 locations currently impassable. The Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Road Administration have sent a working group to the scene to direct urgent repairs.
According to information from the Vietnam Road Administration, as of 4 p.m. on November 20, exceptionally heavy rain and floods in the central region and several other localities have caused severe damage to traffic infrastructure, with 18 traffic jams and flooding on national highways. Authorities and road management units are urgently deploying response measures and overcoming the consequences according to the "four on-site" motto, in order to soon reopen traffic, ensure traffic safety and stabilize people's lives.
Due to prolonged heavy rains and floods, causing serious flooding and landslides, hundreds of locations on national highways have been blocked. Central and local authorities have resolutely implemented many synchronous solutions, but the damage is so great that up to now, there are still 18 locations that have not been opened to traffic. Of which, the national highways managed by the central government still have 15 traffic jams (National Highway 1 has 7 locations, the eastern branch of Truong Son Road has 8 locations); the routes managed by local authorities still have 3 locations.
In Da Nang city, there are 5 remaining locations on the East branch of Truong Son road at Km37+500, Km38+050, Km38+550, Km38+730, Km39+250. Road management area III is expected to open to traffic on November 21.
In Quang Ngai province, there is currently one location on the East branch of Truong Son road at Km158+450.
In Gia Lai province, there is still one location on National Highway 1 at Km1229+600-Km1230+050 due to flooding. The Vietnam Road Administration has coordinated with local authorities and functional forces to regulate vehicles going north-south at Km1221+400, redirecting traffic along National Highway 1D.
In Dak Lak province, there are 5 locations on National Highway 1 with traffic jams due to flooding at locations Km1326+700-Km1327+000, Km1328+500-Km1328+700, Km1341-Km1343, Km1347-Km1350, Km1352-Km1353; 2 locations on Truong Son road, east branch, at Km595+620 and Km598+700.
In Lam Dong province, there is one more location on National Highway 1 at Km1451+600-Km1452+600 in Dien Dien commune, the cause of the water overflowing the road surface is from 50-100cm. The area from Deo Ca tunnel to Co Ma tunnel is congested due to flooding at the intersection north of Deo Ca tunnel (Km1352+800-Km1357+000). For the 4 landslide locations at Km1360+800, Km1369+100, Km1372+850, Km1380+100, the authorities have urgently fixed the situation, and traffic can be restored as soon as the flooded section is cleared.
Currently, road management units are arranging permanent personnel at flooded locations to guide, divert vehicles, and warn traffic participants. As soon as the water recedes, the Vietnam Road Administration will coordinate with local authorities and functional forces to organize traffic regulation, and at the same time monitor weather developments to promptly respond and avoid traffic safety risks.
Regarding the national highways managed by the locality, there are still 3 traffic jams on National Highway 27C (Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provinces). Due to heavy rain and floods, the Khanh Le Pass area has experienced serious landslides at many locations such as Km43+500, Km47+000, Km65-Km71..., causing complete traffic jams. Lam Dong province has banned vehicles from traveling on National Highway 27C since November 17.
Vietnam Road Administration also informed about the traffic diversion plan for vehicles from Nha Trang to Da Lat, as follows:
Option 1: From Khanh Hoa, follow National Highway 1 to Km1556+00, turn right onto National Highway 27 to Km174+00, turn onto Lien Khuong-Prenn expressway to Da Lat.
Option to follow Highway 26 to Highway 27 to Da Lat.

Working groups have been sent to the scene, working directly with localities such as Da Nang city, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak provinces to inspect and direct the recovery. Road management units are on duty 24/24 hours, promptly mobilizing forces, materials and equipment to handle emergency situations.
