On April 7, regarding the incident of 7 young monks being sexually abused at the Thap Thien facility, which is believed to be a pagoda in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Lam Dong province said that the place where the incident occurred was not a legal pagoda managed by the Sangha. This was the private residence of an individual and the owner had passed away. However, this place was used as a place for practice.
Inside Thap Thien facility, Kim Dong street, Ward 6, Da Lat city.Mr. Nguyen Dat Vu used to have the Buddhist name Thich Van Chanh and lived at a pagoda in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province. However, this person violated the code of conduct, so the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Lam Dong province expelled him and stripped him of his monkhood from November 2024.
After being punished, Nguyen Dat Vu went out to practice on his own and was not under the control of the Church.
It is known that from 2023 to March 2025, Nguyen Dat Vu repeatedly sexually abused young monks sent by their families to study and practice at Thap Thien facility, Kim Dong street, ward 6, Da Lat city.
Previously, on April 6, Lam Dong Provincial Police initiated a case and prosecuted Nguyen Dat Vu (38 years old) for the crime of Rape of a person under 16 years old.
