Raising awareness of environmental protection

Environmental pollution is affecting people's lives and destroying the ecosystem. To contribute to environmental protection, it is necessary to have the drastic participation of Party committees at all levels, authorities and political systems and the awareness of each citizen in raising awareness, responsibility and action in daily life.

In recent times, with the strong participation of the entire political system, environmental protection work in the province has had many positive changes. All levels, sectors and localities have done a good job of propaganda and mobilization in environmental protection, through many rich and diverse forms. Support in means of transportation, collection and treatment of household waste, minimizing environmental pollution. At the same time, planning concentrated solid waste treatment areas with many collection points and many incinerators in localities, contributing to green - clean - beautiful - civilized environmental protection.

However, the awareness of public hygiene of a part of the population is not high, the habit of littering freely, not in the right place and at the right time has not changed. Many people think that what they do is too small, not enough to harm the environment. Some others think that environmental protection is the responsibility of the State, the government, and organizations. If the environment is polluted, no matter what they do, it is insignificant, it does not affect themselves. Therefore, walking around the roads from urban to rural areas, there is still the situation of littering in the wrong place, littering right on the roadside, under electric poles, drainage pipes...

Every citizen needs to raise awareness of environmental protection.

The most common is littering on the street or in public places, creating many points of serious environmental pollution. Even though many places have placed trash bins, many people do not put them in the bins but throw them right next to them, scattering trash everywhere. In residential areas, the collection and treatment of daily household waste is not in accordance with regulations, and waste is not collected, classified and treated properly. Some people even bring household waste and dead animals to throw into rivers and canals right where they live. In many markets, waste treatment is not carried out seriously. After market meetings, all kinds of waste in the market area pile up, emitting an unpleasant smell, affecting the living environment and health of vendors as well as surrounding households. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (Long Xuyen City) could not help but feel indignant at the image of a garbage dump located on an empty land where no one has built a house for a long time, causing loss of urban beauty and unsanitary public places. Ms. Hue said: “This place is not a collection point, but the garbage is piled up, both smelly and unsightly. This spontaneous garbage pile is occasionally cleaned up, but after a few days, everything is back to normal, and the garbage reappears.”

In addition, currently, tourist attractions in the province are attracting a large number of visitors from near and far to visit, explore, and take photos. However, some visitors still lack awareness in protecting the environment, unintentionally affecting the tourist landscape. Some visitors often leave behind remnants such as: nylon bags, plastic bottles, food containers, beer cans, soft drinks... lying around under the trees, in the corners of the fun without collecting them to bring home, making later visitors very indignant. Ms. Le Thi Xuan Trang (Tri Ton district) expressed her indignation: "Many people travel with a lot of food in their hands, but when they return home, they are empty-handed, and garbage is left everywhere. Hopefully, everyone should be aware of protecting the environment when traveling."

Environmental protection is not the responsibility of any individual, therefore each citizen and the whole community should raise their sense of responsibility. Think and act properly for the living environment, even from small things in daily life and work. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Thoa (Phu Tan district) expressed: “Every day, we must be aware of clearing grass and trees, cleaning, collecting and treating waste not only in the residential area, but also on the sidewalks, roadsides, and public places. If every family is aware of this, it will create a clean and beautiful landscape, a healthy living environment, ensuring health for themselves and the community”.

Every citizen needs to raise awareness of environmental protection, landscape, and public hygiene through practical daily actions. At the same time, participate in monitoring and condemning littering by violators to join hands in protecting and making the environment increasingly green - clean - beautiful, contributing to improving the quality of life.
