Ignite your passion for painting.

Five-year-old Nguyen Lam Cam Tu, a student in the 5th grade at Tuoi Tho Kindergarten (Quang Ngai City), is one of the youngest contestants in the 2024 Quang Ngai Provincial Children's Art Award. Tu won first prize in the kindergarten category with her painting "Following Mom and Dad to the Fields." The painting depicts the playful, adorable, and cheerful image of a child from the highlands following her parents to the fields. Tu's mother, Lam Thi Minh Nguyet, said that her daughter showed a talent for painting from the age of two or three. She often drew at home as a favorite pastime. Tu frequently visited her aunt, who lives in Son Ha district, giving her glimpses into life in the highlands. This inspired her to create the painting "Following Mom and Dad to the Fields."

Meanwhile, Bui Hoang Lan, a student in class 8A at Pho Vinh Secondary School (Duc Pho Town), won first prize with her painting "Traditional Opera in the Fishermen's Fishing Festival" in the secondary school category. Hoang Lan shared that she loves drawing and was excited to participate in the competition to meet friends with similar interests and to test and hone her drawing skills. Her mother often takes her to see the fishermen's fishing festival in her hometown. She fondly remembers the traditional opera performances during the festival. Therefore, she wanted to recreate the scene of traditional opera in the fishing festival, hoping to introduce the unique culture and the vibrant, lively atmosphere of this traditional festival in her hometown.

With a passion for painting, Ta Thi Quynh Nga, a 3rd grade student at Chanh Lo Primary School (Quang Ngai City), has always been encouraged by her mother to develop her drawing talent. Nga's mother, Do Thi Hong Nhung, said that since she was little, her daughter has often creatively made things for herself. After finishing her homework, she would often take out paper and pens to draw. To help her daughter learn and practice more in painting, in 2023, I enrolled her in extra drawing classes.

“This is the first time I’ve participated in a children’s art competition in the province. I chose to paint a highland landscape with girls wearing traditional brocade, resting by a stream. I tried to choose colors that reflect the beauty of the highland girls and the beautiful natural scenery of the mountainous region of Quang Ngai. I’m very happy that my artwork won first prize in the elementary school category,” Nga shared.

A meaningful playground for children.

The 2024 Quang Ngai Provincial Children's Art Award Competition had the theme "Exploring Tourism in My Homeland." The competition attracted 212 participants from across the province. The children closely followed the theme, painting on topics such as love for the sea and islands; joy in labor and production; traditional culture of ethnic groups; festivals and folk beliefs; and scenic landscapes. Most of the paintings exuded innocence and naivety, yet were equally vibrant and captivating with rich and diverse colors. Beautiful aspects from the mountainous regions to the coastal areas, such as the beauty of Teng Village's brocade, the Ba Chieng Festival, the beautiful waterfalls of my hometown, My Khe Beach, the Khao Le The Linh Hoang Sa ceremony, Ly Son Island, the Bai Choi festival, My Thien pottery village, and harvest season, were recreated in the paintings.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Thi Suong, the quality of the works participating in this year's competition has improved. The children used a variety of materials such as powder paint, watercolors, crayons, pastels, oil paints, torn paper, collage, etc., with many paintings showcasing creative and novel ideas. The Provincial Children's Art Award is not simply a competition but also a festival for the children, contributing to nurturing their souls and developing their artistic talents.
